When using a BIOS CD, the chameleon will always flash bank 0 by default, for safety reasons.  To flash other banks, you'll  either need to use the EvoX Dash or an external programmer.

QUOTE (ex-box @ Feb 9 2004, 12:49 PM)
Speck,

I had this Exact same issue. and it made no differance what bank i booted with or what bios i put on it. i have 2 Ver 1.0 xboxes with Ver 1.0 chameleons. both have header pin installs with a headerpin on D0 so i can quick swap chips.

my one chameleon was working fine.  i took it on the road to a friends house and all it would do is reboot to xbox dash asking to reset the time... umm ok. i set the time like 12 times before it finally stopped asking me. well here i am out with an axox that only boost to ms dash with the mod enabled. almost ruiened my gaming night till i saw i had my original halo with me so we played halo all night. (i have the mod so i dont have to take originals everywhere)

once i got home i swaped the 2 chameleons .. problem changed with the boxes. so it was the chip. i booted with the good chip, then hot swapped to the bad chip. and reflashed bank 0... still bad ... told it to reboot to bank 1 (2nd bank) it booted to chromwel (i never flashed any other bank). flashed bank 1 with an x2 bios. it worked fine. but would not to boot to bank 0.  i finally after LOTS of hotswaping chips i fianlly brokedown. flashed a 1meg bios to the bad chip. then reset it back to 4x256 and put 4 new bios's on it some x's and a new chromwel. worked fine. not sure what happened or why. i have boot  that xbox 100's of times since and taken it on the road  a lot. i was so frustratoed i almost put my x2 into that box but i stuck in there with it.

not sure what the problem was  or why but i must have tried dozens of differant x2 bioses and d6 and e6 and never worked till i reflashed the entire chip. but i always saw the x2 logo and/or the color mod.

i never tried a dvd back up tho to see if it booted or not. maybe you can try booting to evox on a cr-rw and reflash your whole chip from there.

but if this a known problem i would like to know about it also. i do have 2 boxes with 1.0 chameleons and if it is not 100% stable i would like to know. i would hate to say give an xbox to my GF for a week and it wont work..

Were you using a solderless adaptor by any chance?

ok, I am using the solderless. But I KNOW it's not the D0 point. I know this because the box has been fine for 6 months, then I flash and it doesn't work. It was also sitting on a stable surface.

So, the fix that you did was to flash with a 1mb bios? I will try that now.

No go on the 1mb. Tried setting the chip to 1x1024, but when trying to flash it says that it's not in Mode 1. So I set it to Bank1 and flashed again.... it worked, but still the same issue, boots to xboxdash on Bank0.

Will buying a programmer fix this?

What do I do?

question. once the xbox dash comes up, can you then drop a back up into the xbox and it boots?

if it does, you can then burn evox to a CD-RW or DVD (or cd-r if you have a sammy). and use that to flash the bios from evox.

That did it! At least, it helped me do it. The problems started because I was using an older version of XBtool and could not modify where I was booting from (which Dashboard). So, after a few days of playing with it, I finally got it working again!

Thanks all!!!
