If your 160GB drive is blank, you are going to get an error screen.

Have you burnt the Slayer's CD adequately?  CD-RW (or better), as slow as possible, done in an xISO format?

The 160 Gig drive is blank.  I'm trying to get slayer loaded so I can format it.

I have tried 3 times to create the disk cd-rw on the slowest possible speed 2x. Completly erased contents of brand new disk and tried that as well. I have Memerox blanks.  After about the 4th attemp of rebooting the Xbox, it tries to load the linuxbio.bin file from disk but then halts.

Is there a way to swap out the Thomson reader for another brand, or I just fight through the sensitive reader with other media?

put the HD that come with the Xbox to see if your modchip is ok

after, try to get your new HD working.. one step at a time

as for the thomson, you can swap with a samsung drive, but they are very expensive (100-120$ !!) or try the voltage trick on thomson (look in the tutorial section on this site) btw, it look quite hard to do..

1) OK.  I switched the Chip to boot froom bank 0 and replaced with original HD and everything appears good.  Does this mean that I have succesfully flashed bank 0, and all that is left is to get slayer disk to read and install onto new drive?

2) I tried the Thomson DVD reader tweak, but still not too much luck.  I cranked the Ohm level down to 900. Still need help with reader.

3) The Samsung DVD reader is pricey, would it be better just to buy a new XBOX at $175.00?

buy a DVD burner at 100$ insted  biggrin.gif  DVD-R/RW are working perfectly in the thomson drive and you will be able to make backup when your huge 160gb will be full (LOL)

or keep trying with different media.. there will be one that will work !

My friend called me crazy when I was in the store with my full 5 pages list of Xbox database (DVD-ROM and HD) but before buying, I was sure I got a samsung drive..

OK..I have tweaked the thomson drive down to 800 Ohms and things are reading much better.  I'm still unable to boot the slayer 2.5 disk however.  As far as I know I was able to flash Evox M 7 to bank 0 256K on my Chameleon ( read bios disk with dummy file and shut down) .  I have a XBOX v1.0..do I need the 1 Meg Bios?

if the xbox turn off and back on without frag, they you flashed sucessfully.

you now need to install Slayer.. keep trying, the thomson may read it one day  sad.gif

I know this sounds dumb.. but I hear it a lot in the forums. Did you burn the ISO as an image or directly on to the CD?

this is dumb  biggrin.gif

burn the image of curse ! (why would you want to burn the iso files  wink.gif )

I burned disk as an Image.  Most of the times the XBOX will come up with the error screen " Can't read this disk"  sometimes it looks like it attempts to read and a XBOX splash screen will apper just before I get the " Can't read this disk " message.  I have tried Memorex CD RW and TDK CD RW with the same results.  arrrggg.  I will try DVD -r and DVD +r next.  Any other suggestions?

DVD-R/RW should work
