Yes.

Boot the Xbox with a working modchip, then remove the chip and replace it with the other modchip that you want to flash.

tried that, but it was unsuccessful

is it bacause they are different chips?

the one that works started off with cromwell 1.8 on it, and the one thats broken that i hotswapped in is a cromwell 2.27...

so they are both chameleons, but come pre-flashed with a different bios... are they possible to hotswap? to me, it doesnt seem like it becuz it just freezes when inserting the cdrw...

No, you don't use a hotswap flash on chips with the Cromwell BIOS.  That's the whole point of having a Cromwell BIOS, all you need to do is burn a BIOS CD.

To do a hotswap flash, you need a modchip that will boot into EvoX, then you swap the chips and use the EvoX Flash BIOS function.
