Heres My Evox Ini File For 3921
« on: January 06, 2004, 12:46:00 PM »

good post!  I was confused before reading this.

So, in summary:
Bank 0 -> 256K                          Power
Bank 1 -> 256K-Protected          Power + Eject
Bank 2 -> 512K                          No accessable???
Disable                                       Eject

Is this correct?

I am using mode 1 right now, but how do I switch to mode 4?  do I flash bank 1 in mode 1 with a bios of my choice, then switch to mode 4.  Boot with Power+Eject combo, then flash the rest?  Or do i need a programmer to flash my chip with the jumpers set to mode 4?

Guyz, I hope this doesn't break any improtant rulez of the board.. from what I've read through I think I should be ok.

Here's an EvoX ini file I've been working on tonight, it includes full control for the Chameleon mod and so far works GREAT !  As far as the mode4 code, I've made some changes to that of the sample code in the cham. user guide, in order to try to flash the mod as mode 4 suggests. (2 x 256k and 1 x 512k).

See what you think of this ini file and in particular the changes I've made to the Mode4 Flash section.

Hope this is of help to a lot of people installing this great mod. Click below for the ini file for use with Evolution X 3921.

OK guyz, I did some testing just now with the mode 4 software in the ini file. I think that the sample code for Mode 4 given in the user guide is in fact correct. Here's why I think that.

This is the text taken from the Cham. mod user manual.
QUOTE
NOTE: Mode 4 will only function correctly if both points P&E are installed as shown in the
installation manuals.
This mode is to us the most practical, it offers everything you need to develop and test your bios.
By powering on your console using the Power button (and keeping it pressed for at least 3 seconds)
the Chameleon will boot using Bank 1 (Flashable).
By powering on your console using the Eject button (and keeping it pressed for at least 3 seconds) the
Chameleon will be disabled and the console will boot from its onboard bios.
By powering up your console using both Power and Eject buttons (again keeping both of them pressed
for at least 3 seconds) the Chameleon will boot using Bank 2 (Write protected).
Once booted Bank 1 (256k) as well as bank 3 (512k) can be flashed or swapped into by using the
software control features of the Chameleon.

I think there's some confusion here as to how they refer to the Bank numbers, the Banks are numbered from 0 to 3 , therefore in Mode 4 you have Bank0 256k , Bank1 256k, and Bank 2 512k.

In this section of the manual I think they change to refering to the Banks as 1 to 4. So where it says ' By powering on your console using the Power button (and keeping it pressed for at least 3 seconds)
the Chameleon will boot using Bank 1 (Flashable).'
This actually means Bank 0

Where it says ' By powering up your console using both Power and Eject buttons (again keeping both of them pressed
for at least 3 seconds) the Chameleon will boot using Bank 2 (Write protected).
' This actually means Bank 1

Lastly, Where it says ' Once booted Bank 1 (256k) as well as bank 3 (512k) can be flashed or swapped into by using the
software control features of the Chameleon'
This actually means Bank0 and Bank 2

With this slight error in mind, this then proves that the sample code for the Mode4 section of the ini file is infact correct.

Does anyone agree with these findings. ??

Oh and I updated the link to my ini file to show the changes.

Here it is again. My INI File

Not having seen the ini you downloaded from #xbins, then I can't possibly say what is different. However, if you use this ini file in a bootdisk it will operate your Chameleon just fine, along with all other EvoX dash operations.

There's is no need to rename it though, after you unpack the rar file , you end up with the correctly named evox.ini file.  You could then burn this to cdrw to use in conjunction with EvoX dashboard V 3921.

The difference between them is that one has only the evox x commands and nothing that has to do with chameleon. That's the only difference.
