OK. I just got done installing the Chameleon with the Solderless Adapter. I guess you could call this my "official" review.
I will have to strongly recommend this to anyone who is scared of soldering. I took the Xbox apart. Then I took the screw out of the motherboard where the adapter goes. Then I semi-aligned the adapter. Not 100% aligned because the screw hadn't even been placed in.
The only part of the solderless adapter that pisses me off is the screw that they give you. It's a phillips screw, not a torx. I had to walk my ass to my garage to get a different screwdriver. That's the only disadvantage, if you can even call it that, I can find to the Chameleon Solderless Adapter.
Anyway, screwing it in was simple. The adapter is the same shape as the white rectangle that surrounds the LPC holes on the motherboard. The LPC's were easy to align.
Then there's the d0 point with the spring/wire. This, again, was an extremely simple task to accomplish. Just to clarify, you DO NOT need to scrape the motherboard. I would advise against it. The wire is firm, but easily bent. I didn't even have to bend it. I just stuck it in the d0 hole. It went in and stayed in. Since it's firm it didn't come out. I shook the Xbox and banged it on one side. The adapter stayed in its position.
Then I stuck the Chameleon on it, powered up the Xbox, and there came the Cromwell.
This is the only solderless modchip installation that I've done, so I really have nothing to compare it to. I can only say that it was extremely easy and it took literally a total of 10 minutes to accomplish. This includes Xbox unassembly, modchip installation, Xbox re-assembly, and flashing the BIOS on the chip.
