i have just brought the same chip. i also can not get the LED to flash. i got the chip working for 3 days and now it  has stopped working. And i now cannot return to the on board bios for sum reason.

If your box is defo a v1.5 then there's extra work to do because of the lpc changes on the v1.5. For instance the ground pin is not grounded any more on the lpc bus so you need to make this connection yourself by connecting it to the solder pad where the near by screw is. There may be other changes to, I'm not sure without looking further into it.  Have a read in the Xecuter forum about installing to a v1.5, there's some good info's in there regarding the lpc changes.

As for the blue led on the cham chip, when it lights you can't miss it, it lights up the whole xbox. But a few things to bare in mind about the blue led. Only 2 things make it light up. Your cham. chip must have the custom cromwell bios on it, or you must boot into the latest evox dash 3921 . If you don't have either of these, you won't see the blue led. Some retailers flash the cham. chip before shipping so just confirm exactly what bios you have on the mod from your supplier.  If you do have cromwell on it, then check your D0 point as this is often the culprit for the mod not working.

Just wondering about what b16mcc said.

Does this apply to xboxes which are v1.4 ?

Viper, I installed a cham mod to a v1.4 xbox this week, the install is just the same, the only difference is , if you have the focus display chip, you will not get the display from the standard cromwell bios that your chip is supplied with. (unless your supplier reflashed it already with another BIOS).

However, if your cham. does have the cromwell bios as standard, then you will see the blue flashing led on bootup and then you can use the cd to flash the mod without the display as described in the user manual.

So just to confirm, the v1.4 xbox doesn't need any special work with regard to actually installing the mod.  The only difference is if your v1.4 xbox has focus chip, you won't get any display from the cromwell bios on the cham. chip.


Gonze.... How did you install the mod ? is it wireless or pinheader ? If so , simply remove the mod and see if your box boots to msdash, but you will need standard hard disk in to do this test. If it boots, then you know your TSOP is fine , and you can do some tests around the mod install to find your problem.

b16mcc, yes my xbox has the focus chip, my supplier said it has been flashed with the cromwell bios.  There is no visual display.

But i dont get why the eject button and power button is flashing green and red after 2x reboot by itself.

Ok things to check for...

Firstly , are you using the standard hard disk ?
Is the mod set to mode 1 - and bank 1 ? (All dip switches off)
How did you install the mod ?
If you did wireless , make sure the D0 point is spot on !
Does the xbox boot ok with the Cham. mod removed ?

Test these mate, and let me have the answrers, then maybe we will know what your problem is.

Yes the hard drive is standard.
Yes the mod is set to mode 1.
Installed the mod chip by soldering the pin header to the motherboard and plugging the cham. chip onto the pin header. and soldering a wire from DO on cham. chip to D0 on mother board.
Yes the xbox boots ok when the cham chip is removed.

Ok mate, sounds to me like its got to be the D0 point.

Check it, then check it again and again. possibly remove it and resolder it, you may have a 'dry' joint and although it looks ok its actually not connected. My advice is to always use some kind of flux when soldering mods,  don't just rely on the flux thats mixed with your solder, its not enough.

I always use red jelly flux and it really makes a big difference when installing mods.
Please let me know how you go on with your findings, I'd like to see this resolved just as much as you would.

i soldered my D0 point on the bottom of the motherboard which is alot easier than using that REAL tiny spot on the top.
