Update On Chameleons
« Reply #45 on: December 01, 2003, 10:01:00 AM »

I just got my 1.3 from easybuy this morning.  I examined it closely and it looks like it may already have issues.  There are a couple of pins on the mem chip that look as though they have solder bridges between them.  Also noticed that they are not putting the effort into cleaning up the edges of the PCB any longer after they break them off the larger PCB. Has a bunch of rough edges and a chunk from the one that was next to it.  I have yet to put it in a box to test it.  I'll probably take a look at it under the magnifying light before I put it in anything.  After hearing about what they did to the Matrix guys and all the problems others are having, I can tell you this will be the last time I order from EasySteal.your.ideas.and.sell.them.as.our.own.2000.

I need to order another Chameleon soon and looks like I'll be ordering from JonDante

mad.gif     Looks like I'll be doing a little careful cutting with an exacto knife or doing a little desoldering work.     I then still have to test the chip in a box.   Who knows what I'll find then.

UPDATE   12-02-2003   2:15 AM

I cleaned up the solder bridges and fired up the chip in my v1.0 box and all was fine.  Got the Cromwell loader screen and flashed fine.

EB2K, I've ordered a Chameleon from you and was told it is ship out on last Friday or today.  I just brought a XBox 1.5 and I don't have a Matrix programmer (hard to find one now), please don't tell me the chip is not going to work on mind...

In response to hungtccs, The Matrix programmer is still "widely" available;) Go to ModchipMan.com

so is your modchip good or are you going to order another one.  I hope mine is not like that.

Yes it seems to be fine. That is after I used the exacto knife to cut the bridged solder between the pins on the memory chip. Other than that it seems OK.    I do not think I would be ordering another chip from EB2K.  If not just for all the problems and obviously shoddy workmanship but also due to tha fact that they do not have the latest version and the next box I do will most likely be a v.1.5.   Of course it also does not help that they supposedly stole the chameleon for themselves from Team Xodus and have not reimbursed them for the use and sale of their design.

After reading through this thread I've become really confused

Just ordered a chameleon + solderless adapter. I think I have either a 1.4 OR a 1.5 Xbox (the serial number doesn't match the table on linux site) - it's a Sept 2003 week 38! But never mind - it's quite possible a Xbox V1.5. Is the Chameleon going to work on this xbox?

In post of Heykrop the bridges are normal. It is part of the Chamelon design.

Some points are supose to be bridged.

OK Fine. Thanks for the input but that still does not excuse the poor manufacturing. Sloppy PCB.

mad.gif I inquired about chip availibility with Easyscum2000 before I placed my order . I was assured that they had them in stock. For 4 days these jokers lied to me about shipping out my order. Finally I get an email saying they are temporarily out of chips when I had spoken to someone only 5 minutes earlier on the phone that said they would ship out my order today and that they had chameleon chips in stock.  Liars!Liars! Liars! Don't buy anything from these clowns.

I ordered my Chip from easybuy2000 order number a-150070 and inquired sevral times before to make sure that the chip would work on a v1.5 they assured me sevral times that the new batch would and they i could use it in my v1.5. But now i read the treads and see that I need a programmer, and i looked at alot if modchip sites and none have a matrix programmer available! So therefose it seems i am screwed.

I have a 1.4 or 1.5.  Do I have to use the programmer before I get any kind of indication that it is working?  Or should the blue light on the chip light up regardless if it's working or not?  If so this solderless idea needs to be rethought because I've triple checked my setup and it looks perfect with the adapter and the damn thing does do anything but frag.
