Ahhh   UM....  Actually all he needs to do is burn a CD-RW ( Per the Chameleon users guide) that contains the 256k or 512k  bios he wants to flash to the chip and make sure the file on the CD-RW is named LINUXBIO.BIN.   As well as the dummy file named AAAAAAAA.AAA.

Now boot the system and when the tray opens drop in the CD-RW and close the tray. .   Cromwell will flash the 1st bank on the chip with the file from disc and then shut down.

Nope. I have an original Chameleon with the cromwell 1.8 bios and it was modified to flash if it finds a file called LINUXBIO.BIN

The original 1.8 Cromwell from the linux team did not do this but the version that shipped on the Chameleon was altered so that it would.

Um.  All you succedded in doing was Flashing the cromwell bios v2.27 over the cromwell bios that was already on the chip.   If all you want to do is run Linux then you are all set.  If you want to run Apps, emus, backups and Other dashboards then you will need to get one of the hacked bios that are available.  Can't tell you where to get them but I can tell you they will not be found on any of the regular web sites as they usually contain M$ code and are illegal.  You will need to look in other places. . Maybe try starting at www.xbins.org and look in the FAQ for a hint.

ok, it flashed with the executer bios file.. Now when it boots up it just goes right into the normal screen..

now when it does the little x-box loadup thing i notice it says xecuter 2 at the bottom..

here is where the troubleshooting starts, i think.. my cameleon shows no lights on anymore... and i can't power the unit down.. any ideas? no matter what.. if you hit power it shuts off and then boots back up.. like a reset.. and i havn't found the eject button has done anything yet..

is this normal?

How is your XBox and computer connected?  If you are doing direct link you need a patch cable (sometimes referred to as a cross-over cable because it is not the standard network cable).  If you are connecting via router (just as easy) you need to use standard network cables. Make sure you boot with the Evox CD.

If you are using Slayer's your HD will be setup automatically.  No need to worry about ftp at the moment.
