Possible Cause Of Most Matrix-related Xbox Deaths
« on: October 24, 2003, 10:48:00 AM »

No offense but that seems a bit far fetched.  I have never worked with a Matrix...just the Chameleon.  But physical damage seems a bit exreme...

My soldered installs took 15 minutes, and solderless right at 5.  In each case I handle the XBox as I would my computer (which has gone through 10 times as many mods as my XBox and without a hitch).

So to say that "it is only a matter of time before this chip nukes your XBox" is ludicrous.  So many factors such as how lame the installer was, how roughly he/she handled the chip or XBox, soldered or not, etc. play roles in the life of the XBox.  Hell it plays roles in anything from installing a new video card (which you COULD fry your computer if done incorrectly) to nuking your automobile because you installed a 200 amp alternator instead of the 155 amp your car uses.

I think this person you spoke with is full of it.

I have had a matrix for a year now and never once had a problem. I have taken it out many times and just upgraded it to a new pogo mod and still never stripped the threads. Also the threads are plastic so you have to know when the screw is snugg and then stop turning the screwdriver. Overall pogo's are not always easy to line up but work just fine.

If you know what you are doing, the matrix is safe. The problem is that most people who buy the matrix do so because they do not know what they are doing  dry.gif

Well said folks.

Abuse will screw up anything.  Mods will not.

Yes that's right, I had these problems to, once I was busy alligning the thing for 1 hour or so, but i found out, that cleaning the lpc things works really well. Just get the oxide of, it worked very good for me, since i had it alligned again in 5 minutes instead of an hour. Also taking another screw helps. The torx thing easily breaks off some of the plastic where it is mounted it normally, resulting in a torx screw that can't get tight anymore with the chip in. So just take a flat headed, longer than the torx, screw.

You can try to stick something small into the hole like the tip of a toothpick but you want to use something small as possible  so it doesnt damage whats left of the plastic. Maybe use a little teflon tape used for pluming on the screw to make it thicker and the last thing i can think of would be to get a slightly larger screw.

Use a bolt and a nut there is a turtorial on how to use one for the matrix mod chip. I had'nt gotten the screw from the place I ordered my matrix mod chip from. So I had no choice but to do it this way.
