Flashing Chameleon Bios Problems
« on: October 12, 2003, 01:38:00 PM »

I've been trying to flash my chameleon bios but I keep getting problems.  I burned a few
copies of the x2.4977 bios and dummy file on memorex cdrws, but none have worked.  I turn on my xbox, wait a couple minutes for Cromwell bios then put the cd in.  After I insert the cd it starts loading linuxboot.cfg, then says flashing bank 0, dont turn of console, etc..... But after that it just stalls, does nothing, and my xbox doesn't turn off.  I tried burning the 4977 bios and evox M7 and they both dont work. I also tried using a 100, 300, & 500 mb dummy file and tried using the names AAAA.AAA & ODummy.BIN too. Im gonna try and and redownload both bioses, reburn and see what happens. I tried switching the chip to boot up in bank 0 instead of 1, but same results (hopefully doing this didnt mess it up or anything). Could it be the type of media im using even though it detects it? Would connecting an external pc-dvd drive fix it? Any help is appreciated.

when i load up the new chip on the xbox, it is just the new cromwell  1.8 screen .. and i put the cd in and it says linuxboot.cfg found .... now loading please wait, or something like that, then it says it is going to flash and not to touch the console and says it is now going to shut down .. !! do not disturb your console !!. after that it just sets there .. and never shuts down ... i have left it on for 3 days when it says that .. and nothing ever happens.    then when i turn it off i switch back to default dips and still the cromwell screen.

Yea, the same thing happens for me... I left the screen on for almost 30 minutes and the xbox never turned off... Actually I was told that some of the chips have manufacturing defects, which might include mine...    blink.gif

hey TiTaniuMR1, where did u buy your chip from? Are you going to send it back for a replacement? I wonder if using the xodus programmer would help our problem.

QUOTE (TiTaniuMR1 @ Oct 13 2003, 08:41 PM)
i got it from easybuy2000.com, i dont know ... my friend has a programmer but i cant i get it to stay lit up when i put the chip on it .. even with a new battery.

i got mine from easybuy2000.com too.  i just got mine this month... maybe there was a bad batch or something....  So the programmer doesn't work... Are u talking about the light on the programmer (if there is one) or the one on the chip... I rememeber reading that the light on the chameleon isn't supposed to light up when programming it..

Question...are you waiting two minutes BEFORE putting the CDRW in?  I know it sounds crazy, but that is the only way I have had success flashing the BIOS.  And I have done it now with both 1.0 and 1.2 boxes (got a 1.3 coming to try it on).

Yes, I have.. I even waited longer than 2 mins.. Are there any other tricks I could try?

TiTaniuMR1, did u contact easybuy2000 by phone or by e-mail? I e-mailed their [email protected] address and they said I have to get a rma number, mail it back, and all that crap... Did you get one of those #'s? And are u paying anything extra (like for overnight )?

Does your 4277 still work?  I ran into that yesterday, and merely went into MSDashboard through EvoX and reset the clock, and then reflashed the BIOS.

Ok, I got my chip today. I flashed it with D6 BIOS because I didn't have access to 4977 at the time. I used the Matrix Programmer (PAIN). The key to making this work is one. The light doesn't stay on like it used too with the Matrix when you flashed. This time it is very quick and then its off. You actually have to hold the chip and the programmer in place for it to flash properly. It's a pain but I got it to work. Now my problem is, I have the Slayers CD and am unable to flash the chip with it. So I resort to the method on the Easybuy website and also JonDante method which are the same. I get cannot find linuxboot.cfg  Halting. I have burned 6 CDRW's all at diffrent speeds with the 4977 (256K) and a 100mb dummy file. It still doesn't work. I am going to burn a DVD-R because I know it works and I will update this post in a moment. If that doesn't work I will need to go back and use the Matrix programmer to flash the 4977.

Make sure that the linuxbio.bin and dummy file are burned just as a data CD.  Do not use Slayers, or make an ISO or XISO out of the files.
