Chameleon Solderless Installed - Problem W/bios
« on: September 26, 2003, 11:19:00 AM »

Hi

I t sounds like you have done everything correct .. I can only suggest obvious solutions ..

1. try burn at the lowest speed possible ..
2. try renaming the dummy file to aaa.aaa
3. try using yet another make of media

you r renaming the x2 bios right ?

okay

firstly u definitely need to find 256k version ...

It sounds like we gonna have a hard time with your drive .. but I`m sure if you try diferent brands of media .. something will take !!

Problem after flashing the bios .. is tryign to load up the dash ! .. so either way we have to solve the media reading prob first wink.gif

I look at the data side of all the CDRW's and they all look the damn same...

I'm going to explode, make sure you all have umbrellas smile.gif

ok, i've burned another disc, on the verbatim again....and I noticed that the last file being burned was aaa.aaa in Nero. So the linuxbio.bin must be burning to the disc first...
that defeats the purpose of a dummy file.

So, I loaded up CDGenPS2 and loaded the aaa.aaa in first (so the LBA was lower)
and then loaded in linuxbio.bin....burning it right now at the slowest speed (2x)
on my Plextor burner.  I will reply with the results, I hope this damn thing works...

I'm talking to myself, now....

no-one else has any reccomendations?
anyone else have the same POS picky friggin Thompson drive?

I flashed by chip with LINUXBIOS.BIN and a dummy file with Joilet on.Had the same prob.It never asked me to insert CD and on the left side under the HDD and DVD-ROM specs it said the same thing. Some thing about the  linuxboot.cfg error or some thing.

So I turn on the xbox with chip and right before the BIOS was going to select DVD-rom from the thumb Nail Pic @ the botton of the screen I inserted the disc and it was flashing right.

I'm not an expert so i don't know if you flash it that way is a good thing.I am currently running evox 3921 witch will flash the Blue LED on board the chip if its working biggrin.gif  Xecuter2_Build.4978.03_512k ph34r.gif

I had the same problem.  My thomspon drive won't read any of the CD-RW I threw in either.  I ended up attaching a PC dvd-rom to the xbox using a Y power cable, and I increased the size of the dummy file to 500 MB as well.  So maybe that's worth trying if you still can't get it to work.

Bob,

Do NOT insert the disk when it first asks you to.

Take a glance at my tutorial.  It sounds like you are doing everything right. However, if you have not done this, take TWO MINUTES (I am so not kidding...that is the ONLY way my Thompson read the disk) after it asks for the BIOS disk.  Then insert the disk, and it should flash fast.

Go with the Memorex CDRW.

JD

[EDIT:  Hmmmm, looks like you tried this already.  Do you have a DVD burner?  If so, you could try (dread) this with a DVD-R.  I have used KHypermedia and Memorex with very few issues.  However last night, discs I have been playing for sometime started giving me the "dirty disc" error.  So I will clean my lens.  You might try doing that as well.]
