Installing Evox With Cromwell
« Reply #15 on: September 25, 2003, 04:59:00 AM »

Actually I got it to work with the X2_4977 bios.

I did basically what gman22 suggested.  I started it up with the Eject button, and IMMEDIATELY closed the tray.  When it closed on screen, it was flashing "Waiting for media" or something to that effect.  I inserted my CD-RW with the bios and a dummy file, and less then a minute later, it shutdown and works perfectly.

Thanks for the hint gman22, I was getting frustrated and your post sent me down the right track.

Other than that, the install went completely smooth, the solderless adapter is a breeze to work with, though on a v1.0 xbox you do have to desolder about 8 holes.

I do have the Thompson drive, and I used Memorex CD-RW media (the little
185MB CD-RWs worked great, I had them laying around).

The only problems I had were that 1) I use the SVGA adapter on my XBOX so no
video appeared on screen until I switched to the composite cable, and 2) I
had the "Close DVD Try to Select" message which I got around by turning the
box on with the eject button and immediatel closing the drive, and it said,
"Waiting for Bootable Media" or something to that effect.  Once it did that,
I opened the tray, inserted the disc, and it flashed fine.
