the "stealth" mode is pretty much worthless really - once you've booted with a modded bios, even if you unplug the chip entirely, if you go on live, you'll get banned. I prefer mode 4 because of the ease of switching back and forth between the tsop and the chip, but you can also switch banks in evox once you get up and running, so it's mostly a preference thing, whichever is most convenient for you.

And you really don't need to hold the buttons that long,be sure your modded bios is a colormod, so you can tell which bios you're in...

It'll have cromwell in all four banks when new... - you'll probably want to leave the last 512k in cromwell, in case you get a bad flash you can recover easy...

and you shouldn't need to move the dip switches, but if you do, I use a dental pick I got from the dollar store

You can turn off your cham chip in any mode by holding the eject button for about 3 seconds, in which your Xbox should reboot with it off.

I think that's how it works.

Also, should I flash with a 256k or make it a 512k bios?

I'm thinking that since bank 2 is write protected in mode 4, I should flash with a 512... and that way I'll have my primary copy of 4977 in bank 1, but I'll then also have a backup of it in bank 2...

256k is better, because then you can have 3 different bios on the chip. Assuming that you same the last bank for the chromwell bios.

Yes, it has to be in mode one to flash ( it should be in mode one when you get it)

I prefer a 256k bios, but there's no reason you couldn't use a 512k bios...

256k wasts space because it is just the 256k bios mirrored over on itself so that it is 512k.

Not quite, you could flash both banks one and two with the 4977(256k), then you would have the backup copy that you wanted.

Why not be safe and simply flash the bios twice in mode 1 on two different banks?

yes, you can, no need to "be safe", you've got cromwell on banks three and four...
