Problem With Keeping The Matrix In Place
« on: September 05, 2003, 03:36:00 PM »

I have a small but vrey irritating problem. I have successfully installed the Martix chip in my v 1.0 Xbox about three months ago. But here is the problem. The chip doesn't seem to stay in place very long. I constantly have to open up the Xbox and press on the right side of the chip where the pogo pins are located, to get it to work. And this happens EVERY time I start the Xbox. And I've noticed that some of the pogo pins are shorter than the others, and they are located in, - you guessed it - the right side of the chip. I thought this is the way the Matrix chip was constructed until a few days ago, when a friend of mine got his chip. On his chip, all of the pins were the same length. So my questions are as follows; What can I do? Do I need to replace the chip or is there an easier way? Can I put some sort of tape on it that will keep it in place or will that destroy the motherboard? Or mabye I should just take out the chip and clean it off?
Would appreciate any answers, cause I'll try pretty much anything at this point.

I cleaned the pins with acetone. The one that is stuck losened up a bit, just enough to get it to work, for now anyway. I scraped the LPC points too. It seems to be working just fine, but if I ever have the same problem again, I'll have several other options to chose from. Thanks you guys!

I definitely agree with the solder solution. Thats what I did for my D0 point. What happened was I removed the Pogo-pin from the d0 solder point, and then added solder to cover the hole. Then I heated up that solder and shoved the pin back it, and it formed a very sharp pointy cone of solder around the pin. it doesn't pogo anymore but it's perfect, and hasn't moved out of place. Very easy to align now. Works perfect.
