Installing A Bios
« on: September 05, 2003, 01:50:00 PM »

I had this problem, until I waited to insert the CDRW with the new BIOS on it.  I waited at the Cromwell boot screen for about 1-2 minutes, then inserted my CDRW.  For some reason the flash happened in about 5-10 seconds after that.

I tried doing that but it didn't work. I've tried switching banks as well. I'll go through my burning process and would someone see if it's wrong.
1.I put in a Memorex 4x CDRW.
2.I changed the Evox name to LINUXBIOS.bin/ also I've tried just the Cromwell 1.8
3. I choose a new session in Nero, then compile, Data, next, finish
4. Then I add step 2 onto a CD and then I put in a 116mb avi file onto the CD. I then do a slow burn at 2x and when it's completed I pop it in the box and the loading message. So as Xodus Team said in an earlier post, it's 100% wrong with my prepared media. Suggestions?

im not sure because im having problems myself but i think its suppose to be renamed linuxbio.bin or um bios.bin

i actually put both on a cd and added nero zipped because the image was too small.

so you make it iso like usual and um well good luck with that. When you get there tell me what ya did :-P

im stuck

I managed to install a different version of the cromwell 1.8 that's already on there. Sigh. It's done no good, the only difference is that I know have a person getting shock therapy as my background.

Here was my proceedure:

1. create a folder with a 100mb dummy file called dummy.bin and renamed my xecuter BIOS 4977 to linuxbio.bin.
2. put in a fresh CDRW and opened Nero.
3. burn both items as a single session (closed the session, DAO).
4. turned on XBOX, and waited two minutes with tray open.
5. inserted burned CDRW and closed tray
6. 10 seconds later had xecuter BIOS installed
7. loaded slayers 2.1 so I could enjoy the benefits of my modded box

Since you were able to load a bios before, I can only begin to assume that there may be something wrong with the bios you are trying to load...especially if you follow the above proceedure and get no success.

Yeah, that process didn't work so I'm assuming it's the Bios. It took so long to find Evox to begin with. Oh well. The size that I'm using is 1mb. Is that too big for what evox is, because that's what I'm trying to flash with.

In this case, make sure your dipswitches are set to take the whole 1 meg BIOS.  You can't just go flashing a Chameleon with a 1 meg BIOS when it is in mode 1 (4x256).  I think you have to be in mode 4 or something to achieve this.  THAT may very well be your issue.

2. The "dummy" file .. has to be named aaaa.aaa ( or just aaa) this will ensure the dummy file is written before the linu... file

3. JonDante .. makes a valid point about waiting a few seconds before incerting the cd .. you should wait untill the on screen promt actualy asks for the cd ..

Xodus

P.s. Bejiba .. just change bank .. and try again witht he right bios file .. once the box turns off change back to bank 0  U can only use the bios update feature with the Chameleon- Cromwell bios ... and it will not alow u to burn a 1meg file .. you should look for a 256k version of the bios u want .
