Fried Matrix Doing Tsop Flash
« on: September 03, 2003, 06:28:00 AM »

blink.gif ) So, we took used a Matrix chip from another XB and installed it in his. We tested to see if it worked and it came up and loaded EvoX just fine.  Now it was time to flash the TSOP.

After reading the tutorials, we connected one end of a wire to T1, then lined up the Matrix and powered the XB on.  At this point we just wanted to see if the Matrix was lined up correctly, so we didn't ground the T1 wire to the screw.  The ends of the wire were not touching anything.
When the XB was powered on, it almost immediately shut itself off and there was a burned smell!
After carefully examining everything, I saw that the underside of the Matrix had a burned out trace.  I soldered it back and tried again, but it burned out the same trace.

WTF!?!?

The Matrix was in mode 2.  I know it's supposed to be in mode 3 to do the flash, but at this point, since we were testing, the wire wasn't touching anything, so I don't see how it would've caused a problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks...
