Chameleon Frags?

well,
to be complete, I've tried this 3 different ways:
solderless adapter- got a point where I could get the LED to a greenish state, played with it for about 2 hours, couldn't get it to stay in the blue "flash" zone
pinheader- tried this, twice (2 different pinheaders) didn't see the greenish LED state, but the blue would not stick... no matter how hard we tried
quicksolder- tried once, same deal, except no lights at all

Then tried an x2lite adapter, worked the first time, so I'm guessing it was the chip that was bad.. (the way I come to this conclusion, was that the blue area did not stay, even with no / minimal movement from the position where the led went blue briefly (I saw a blue flash, but couldn't get it to stay... the x2l had no problems.)..   Go figure...
