Matrix Was Working, Now Isn't (n00b Question?)
« on: August 12, 2003, 11:02:00 PM »

I successfully went through the Matrix installation process on my Xbox 1.0 about 6 months ago.  Everything has been working great.  Then a few days ago I came home and found my modchip wasn't working.  I looked through the side of my Xbox and saw that the light was always red.  So, my first thought was that my chip had become mis-aligned.  So, I opened up the box and attempted to re-align it.  But, I can't seem to get it aligned anymore.  I put the chip back into test mode (both switches on) and looked for the green light.  However, whenever the light turns green (which is rare now) is only holds for a split second as it slowly fades to red.  I cannot get the green light to stay steady for any length of time no matter what I do.  The chip is not moving at all, yet the green light still changes to red.  As a last resort, I removed my modchip and flashed the bios (which needed to be updated anyway) thinking maybe it got borked but I'm still having the same problems.  I don't see any physical damage to the area where the chip connects.  I'm totally at a loss with this one, and I'm about to pull my hair out.  Anyone have any ideas what might be going on here?  I'm curious what I need to test next...  any guesses as to whether it's the chip or the xbox?  Checking either means buying a replacement which means money I don't have.  I'm hoping it's fixable.  The xbox still works fine for non-mod activities like store bought xbox games and dvd movies.  Any suggestions are most appreciated.
