Matrix Problem.....xbox Turning Itself On And Off
« on: August 06, 2003, 05:53:00 AM »

we just put the matrix(aligned correctly) in my xbox, and when u turn the power on the xbox will turn on for like 2 seconds, then it will turn off....then turn back on for a second, then turn off, then back on and it stays on, but the screen is black. We flashed it with the Xecuter bios, as well as the Matrix, and that doesnt seem to be the problem. Once the Modchip is taken out, the xbox loads just fine. So what should we try? Also we cant get any programs on the xbox because "the xbox does not recognise this disc". Which doesnt make much sense because we are using CDRW's on my friends Samsung DVD drive. So any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

we have it in test mode when we were aligning it. We did it the easy/more dangerous way and aligned it while the power was on, Blinked red until it was aligned, then binked green, and we screwed it down and its aligned. And while in test mode, it will boot just fine, then when we switch it to mode 1(i think), this is when it starts to turn on and off. And yes, it actually turns on and off, u can hear the HD powering up and down, as well as the fans.

O and also, the Matrix bios is what is on there now.

Also if u turn the XBOX on and off like 20 times (while its booting itself on and off) it will eventually just turn on normal, however its like the modchip isnt doing anything, regular boot up screen and it still says MS under the X. Everytime it does this i have to reset the clock.

You are contradicting yourself (although I am not sure you know it blink.gif ).

If you take the Modchip out and try to boot off of a disk and get "the xbox does not recognise this disc" it makes perfect sense.  Why would it boot a CD-RW without a chip installed?

This is most likely your problem.  Mode 1 is for aligning the chip.  Once the chip is aligned you need to switch the chip to mode 2.  Mode 2 is standard "mod enabled" mode.  If you need to flash the chip you need to switch it to mode 4.

Try this and report back.

The symptoms you have are called a FRAG.  The Xbox powers on and off a couple of times, then just Flashes Red And Green.  Obviously, with Blue LEDs, you no longer see the red/green flashing, but it's definitely what you are experiencing.

If you want to know more about FRAGging, read the Frag FAQ:
http://forums.xbox-s...=ST&f=9&t=68278

In your case, it most likely means one of two things.

1.  Not all of the pogo pins are making proper contact to the motherboard.  (Don't put too much faith in the flashing green light, it sometimes lies).

2.  There is no working BIOS on the chip.  If the programming software is verifying OK, then this is not likely to be your problem, but it doesn't hurt to try flashing a few different BIOSes.  I always recommend a noani BIOS for MatriX installations.

so FRAGing means the xbox actually powers itself down(HD and fans turn off) then back on? Cuz after reading that, it just said the leds blink red and green. Sorry to be so dumb, just making sure.....

hmmm...  You're right, that FRAG FAQ doesn't actually say that the Xbox turns on and off a couple of times, and THEN flashes red and green.  That FAQ should probably be amended.  But trust me, what you are experiencing is a FRAG.
