nope,  it won't work on 1.2 and 1.3 xboxes, but now you can get x2.2 lite plus, which is another solderless solution and will work with new xbox versions

So I gotta spend another $60??

$50 actually, and I think that the DVD drive should work fine, as people even put regular pc dvd drives, and from what I heard they work, so when you replace the dvd, if im not imstaken, it should work.

1) technically matrix works with 1.2 units but you'll need to solder (not with 1.3 since it needs the LFRAME point)

2) oem xbox dvd drives are universal. you can opt for a pc conversion as atrid said, but most of them will only be able to read backups, no originals (with the exception of a modified samsung 616t, as to my knowledge)

i wonder how you can buy a x2.2 lite plus and have it work on 1.0,1.1,1.2,1.3 XB's? isnt the d0 on the 1.0,1.1 in different spot from the 1.2,1.3?  or  are there two verisons of the x2.2 lite plus?

I think that there are two D0 pogo's on the x2.2lite+ as between the 4 versions, 1.0 and 1.1 D0's are in the same place, and the same with the 1.2/1.3.

correct. the x2.2lite+ has 2 pogo pins that cover both D0 positions. an onboard switch decides which pogo to use.
