Anybody Using The Expansion Port On A Chameleon?
« on: July 26, 2003, 08:48:00 PM »

OK, so if no one is using it, does anybody have an idea HOW one would use it?  What kind of switch would I hook up to it?  Even if I use an SPST, then what what am I grounding it to?  If you don't know what I'm talking about, they are the holes/contacts on the right side of this pic.  I can't even read what those top two contacts say, maybe "WE" and "ME", but I'm not sure.  The remainder are Dip1, Dip2, Dip3, Dip4,LED, ?IMO?,Power,Eject.

Anybody Using The Expansion Port On A Chameleon?

Hello,

I'm also new at this and I have a nice new Chameleon waiting to be installed in my XBOX as so as I get the Adapter. I hate soldering the motherboard other places I'm fine just to much that can go wrong on the MB. Any ways I was wondering if anyone has experimented with connecting an external LED (duel color) to the chip so that you can easily tell if the MOD CHIP is on or off. I've searched most of the forums with no luck I would like to use the expansion ports because they are there for the using and would make for an easier solder point. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I've just had a look at the expansion port on my Chameleon.  It sure is hard to read the labels, but here's what I think they are:

WE       * *  WE
DIP1     * *  DIP2
DIP3     * *  DIP4
GND      * *  LED
EJECT   * *  POWER

I haven't actually tested any of the following suggestions, but I believe they should work.

The top two points (WE) seem to be for some sort of manual Write Enable overide switch or something.

To replicate the DIP switches, you'd have to attach 1 SPST switch to each of the corresponding holes (or an external set of 4 DIP switches), and simply ground the other end of each switch (you can use the GND point).

For an external LED, you can wire the
  • leg to the hole marked LED, and the [-] leg to GND.  I'm not sure exactly what indications this LED will give you, but I might try it out tomorrow if I have time.
