Matrix 256k Or Chameleon 1mb... Or Both?

If you want a no-solder solution then just get the chameleon with pogo pins. Don't worry about getting the matrix. Here is a link http://www.easybuy20...n_adapter.shtml

Matrix 256k Or Chameleon 1mb... Or Both?

ok thanks alot, ill look into the Chameleon, but just as a question, why wouldnt you bother with the matrix?  It seems it can do everything you would need, or can the chameleon do all that and more?  Also if you could explain the 1mb and 256k difference of the chips that would be great! Thanks!

The 1MB BIOS allows you to do dual boot/or multi boot to different BIOSes on a single chip.  The Chameleon also has many different BIOS partitioning options: [MODE 1] 4x256k, [MODE 2] 2x512k, [MODE 3] 1x1024k, [MODE 4] 2x256k + 1x512k (this is the recommended mode, where the 512k BIOS is actually "protected").  Having a 1MB BIOS is especially useful to developers wanting to test their homebrew code on different BIOS versions, or to run some of the larger 512k "developer" BIOSes.  The larger BIOS option is also a better long-term solution since it's possible that future BIOS revisions will be cresting into the 512k range.  Most of the "good" BIOSes floating around (x2_4977, evoXD.6, etc.) are all 256k, so if your only intention is to run the EvolutionX dashboard to play your emulators, backed-up games, etc., then the 256k BIOS on the Matrix would suffice.

The other major difference is that the Chameleon, if set in mode 4 and soldered to your power/eject points, has the ability to be disabled via the power/eject buttons, based on how long you hold the buttons down.

If you're not afraid of soldering, get the Chameleon - it's cheaper and more robust than the Matrix anyway.  If your budget isn't limited and you want to go with the best overall modchip (not necessarily due to the chip itself but the support available), go with an X-Ecuter Lite or Pro.

Ok thanks alot, i was just doing my research and ive definitely decided not to get matrix, im going to get the X2 pro most likely, because of the switch and programmer and nice stuff, but maybe the chameleon also for the nice power on/off thing.  Thanks for your help!  I should learn how to solder anywho.  Just one last question, will you really need to reflash much in your modchip's life?  I may have to take into consideration the fact that the Chameleon can flash in the xbox right?  Ok have fun!

You probably won't need to flash your modchip more than once.  Most, if not all modchips come with the Cromwell BIOS preinstalled, so technically you don't need a programmer, but it is nice to have (just in case something goes wrong or you get that 1/10,000 modchip that wasn't flashed), and the X2 Pro comes with everything - cables, switch, programmer, you name it.
