Matrix Mod --> Misalignment?
« on: July 17, 2003, 10:21:00 AM »

Sounds to me like your Matrix might be functioning and installed just fine.  Did you ever flash a BIOS onto the modchip?  Your LED light is completely normal in modes #1 and #4 (mode 4 should look orange, and you should leave it in this mode so that you can flash your chip with new BIOSes once they are released), I never used a Matrix in modes #2 or #3, all I know is that either mode 2 or 3 disables the chip allowing you to boot into the stock M$ dashboard.  If the LED behavior in modes 2 & 3 is not correct, then that could just be due to the fact that there is no BIOS on the chip.

If you have no BIOS, you'll have to use a programmer to flash the thing; or find a friend with a Matrix that would be willing to disconnect his modchip after booting up into EvolutionX or another hacked dashboard, and then have him flash your BIOS from EvolutionX.

To make a correction to the quote you pasted above, a fan on the GPL chip is usually an idicator of a 1.0 model, although some of the "older" 1.1's have the fans on the GPL.

Ya, I flashed a BIOS (blue Mod? I think is in the name, I'm not at my CPU right now so I can't double-check yet) twice, using WinLPC and the Xodus Programmer (xp.exe) on two separate occasions. Both times it *seemed* like it wrote the BIOS fine. Same with the Chameleon chip.

I'm not 100% certain that the BIOS is legit, but it's the same BIOS my friend used to chip his XBox so I can only assume it wasn't corrupted when I downloaded it.

I set it to Mode 4, but it kind of scared me because the LED flashed a constant orange and it booted up in the same manner as Mode 2 (turn on/off, on/off, on with blank screen and blinking EJECT button).

Any other ideas?

Did you cut the tracks on the matrix before you plug the chameleon into the matrix. You have to cut the tracks on the matrix for the chameleon to work with the matrix. Inturn which make the matrix not funtion as a mod chip anymore, and turns it into a pogo pin adapter for the chameleon.

cool,  I just wanted to make sure you had cut the tracks and that you understand
that the matrix will no longer function as a mod chip. If you can solder, then I would
recomend just installing the chameleon on its own. You can pre flash it with the matrix programer and Xodus programing software.

I dont think it matters for alignment of the matrix. You deff need a bios on the chameleon though.

well i have my matrix chip aligned perfectly, i killed the tracks (at least i hope i did, i damn near carved through the thing), and when i put my chameleon on piggyback, the blue light on it doesn't even turn on.. i just get the regular M$ dashboard coming up. (in mode two of matrix, tried others)
