Chameleon Solderless Adaptor
« on: July 12, 2003, 09:55:00 AM »

OK. Just before someone ask no I am NOT an electronic newbie. I have installed every generation of modchip including Chameleon's via X-Ecuter like direct install and pins-header methods. While reading the user manual, I have noticed that Xodus are talking about a ''soon to be released totaly NEW solderless adaptor''. Well, this is like 2 months that I'am installing Chameleon's all around and a lot of ppl are asking me if the project has been canceled or something.

In fact, those ppl aren't lame at all. It is true that if you fucktop all banks FlashROM via EvoX software and that the mod has been installed via Direct Solder, you are in deep shit - With the Pogo-Pins, just take out the mod, plug it in the Matrix Programmer and reprog it from 0. So for ppl who are trying out every new bios (with different sizes) all the time, the solderless adaptor is essential for security issues.

So, is the solderless project dead or what? What do I say to them? I have tried to contact Xodus about it; no answer... Anyone can help over this?

Thanks to anyone in advance for replying.

If you are able to solder the pin header, then what possible reason could you have for wanting a Pogo adapter?

If you really, really want to be able to remove the Chameleon without soldering, just use the pin header install and simply split the D0 wire into 2 and simply twist the two ends together or if you want to get fancy install adapters to the ends of the wires.

YAY!!

''For the technically minded, you will notice that the D0 point has been routed to the "missing" LPC point, again another first for innovation and forethought :-P no more connectors and confusion, simply plug and play :-)''

Hum, they are talking about LFRAME, but does it means that the first batch of Chameleon that were using LFRAME will not work with the solderless adaptor?

What about the P and E points? Looks like you still need to solder to those...

Yep.  I think this was supposed to give you the same functionality as using the Matrix as the solderless adapter, but giving you an option other than cutting those traces.  I can't think of any way they could make the P & E points solderless, unless they provided something that clips to the edge of the Chameleon's PCB (alligator clips?) and some kind of an adhesive pad with pliable metal conductors that would make contact with the P and E resistors.

Just so you guys are aware, the reroute of D0 to the unused pin is nothing new. Its been done on the X2 mods since day 1.  They just never advertised it.

So will EasyBuy2000 be shipping there new Chameleons with both the header pin connector and the new adapter or will they be charging extra for this pogo pin adapter?

If they are charging ... I don't see where the choice to buy this adapter is at EasyBuy.

Thanks for any info.

The LPC-port is designed so that even though you might displace the contact "by one" on accident (i.e, plug the header in either one step to the left or to the right) you will _not_ get a total short (+5 or +3.3 connected to ground).

HOWEVER - this is no longer true on XII and the new Chameleon. Next to that unused pin is +5 - and D0 is connected to ground on-chip.

"Yeah but only lamers would .. "

Tored

Xodus have repeatedly advertised the fact that they use single rail supply for saftey reasons, The Chameleon (as well as the Matrix) work off the 3.3v supply ONLY ... Take another close look at the addaptor  wink.gif  there is no 5V supply line .

Easybuy2000 - Adaptor + Chameleon

LOL? There is no way to buy an adaptor without the mod? What happens if you bought the mod BEFORE and want to use it with the solderless adaptor?

ok, this is a bit stuipid. But it would make more sence if it was pogo pins that connected to the LPC, D0, and A15 point, so you could flash the tsop faster on your other boxes in your bissness.

That way you but one chip, and 1 soderless adapter to make 10xbox run linux fast.
