don't use hot glue, might damage the mobo, either tape it down or try a few drops of super glue.  i never tried them, i just exchanged mine for an xecuter

use the star washer that it came with. Replace screw with a #6 x 1/2" sheetmetal screw. It has worked for me since Dec 02, not a problem yet.

are the LPC pads filled on yours?

Mine is a 1.0 so the holes are filled.

Apparently, there is a coating over the d0 point that is suppose to prevent you using the point (yeah, like that works well!). I had a few problems with mine too, so I took the chip out, and scraped all the points with my finger nail. You should find that the matrix will 'align' much better after this.

Mikes method of filling lpc holes with solder:
ok dont know how to solder but have iron and tools? here we go then...
first, get flux if you can, not necessary but it helps
second, silver bearing solder sticks better, if you have
ok now, tin your iron with solder, not so it has a ball, but so you can see shiny solder on it.  then stick the tinned iron in the hole for a second, it should be filled. lather, rinse, repeat.
Edit: by stick it in the hole i mean put the tip rite in there!!!

Ya that is a good idea to do aswell ChadH, I did that myself

I have never delt with the LPC holes unfilled, but I would think that
mite cause you problems.

I'm not having trouble getting it aligned at all. In fact, one i get it there, i can screw it down, and turn the xbox on and off all night with it working. But in the next day when i get home from work, i get a frag. So, i'm basically just trying to figure out a good way to keep it from shifting itself. I'm gonna try riggging something up tonight. In a thread i found with search, one guy suggested electrical tape, perhaps i'll try something with that.

Do the scraping thing first. I think you'll find the problem is more down to bad contact rather than the chip actually moving (unless you live next to a railway line or a volcano!)

ICY, I was having the same problem.  I could get the chip aligned on the edge of the holes, but if you bumped the machine (even opening the DVD drive can bump it) the pins would fall right into the LPC holes.  So I got the LPC holes filled with solder and it was A LOT easier to get it aligned.

However, once the holes were filled and the screw was tightened, the chip wanted to lift on one end.  Even with the spacer washer.. (If it's not one thing it's another).  I tried a couple of washers, some cork on one end of the chip, but nothing would keep it making contact and in place.

So yes, hot glue does wonders to keep it in place and stuck down.  I put a small dab on the left side of the chip, next to the edge of the motherboard (where there are no traces or anything) and it keeps it aligned and down in place.  biggrin.gif

I flipped the box upside down, shook it a few times, bumped it around, and it still boots.

I just don't get why you'd fill the LPC holes with solder, never seen a matrix chip but I'm guessing you could solder a wire to each lpc point and then onto the pogopin.

If you're going to solder you might as well soler the whole thing in rather than just the LPC points.

If I were you and was willing to solder (I know you weren't when you bought your matrix but nothing like a misaligned pogo mod to change your mind)

I'd sell the Matrix chip and buy a pin header one instead, easy solder (I did mine fine first time having never soldered anything except a 5 wire PSX chip (which was really easy))
I've got a cheapmod but I'd buy an executer2 if I was to buy another one.

Of course you could always solder the 2 points on your MB reflash the TSOP and then load the a copy of the original bios onto the matrix for xbox live (Or whatever)

Right under the chip on the far left side of the motherboard.. just a small dab will do.

Get it all aligned, squeeze a small amount under the chip, and push the chip down and let the glue dry (should only take a few seconds) and voila.. it's stuck :-)

Good suggestion, but i'm gonna try to stay away from soldering as long as possible, this hot glue thing sounds like it might work. worth a try. did you put the glue on top of the chip or below it and then attatched it to the mobo?

I had the same issues with the Matrix, and the thought of soldering was a bit daunting. However, I ended up taking the Matrix out and getting the Chameleon, and although it took me a while, I was well pleased with the results.

Since your LPC holes are empty, the job is practically 3/4 done already and I would really recommend going with it. The great thing is, it means you can also have more than one BIOS.
