Bootscreen And Cham Flashing
« on: June 04, 2003, 07:51:00 AM »

It sounds like you could have damaged either of the resistors on the P or E points where the chameleon chip connects.  DId you bother with these points at all?  You could have either bridged them or damaged them.  I had a problem with the power point a while back and I had to make a special jumper from the pin straight to the resistor.  Check those.  If you didn't even bother with those points (they aren't needed if you just want the chip to flash a diff bios), then I'd try booting Cromwell bios from a different bank.  Perhaps the first one was damaged, so try a new bank of cromwell, this may solve your problems.  Also- ARE YOU SURE it says it's "FLASHING BANK 0"?  Often, if my cd didn't have a DUMMY.BIN file (at least 50mb large) my chip would say that it is flashing, but never completely flashed the bank.  IT DID SHUT OFF THOUGH- so my guess is that you either have a damaged E or P point, or you just need to boot cromwell from a different bank.  Try these and let me know

I didnt mess with the E and P point so I think those are ok.

I'd try to boot from another bank. but I will try it again...

I have tryed to flash with several types of DUMMY files(in size) with or without. Nothing at all changed.
Anyway, I will try it again and will look for the "FLASHING BANK 0"

Guess my cham is empty, no cromwell bios at all, tho I get the boot screen for the cd.....

And btw, the power is ok. I can just reset or power the xbox. No strange actions at all

Keep trying, I had the same problem.  The cromwell bios will not boot to the evox screen.  Its a legal bios unlike the others, thats why its ships on the chip. But anyway make sure you follow the direction on the Xodus website for flashing and renaming the bios.  I used a DVD+RW and it took about 5 tries.  On the fith tryI just sat there and the Xbox powered down.  Suprise.  It flashed!  I hope this helps as I was in your shoes before.  BTW the bluelight on the chip is waiting to be flashed or rather an indicator.

Seems like the chip is doing what its supossed to do.  Are you using a BIO other than the Cromwell, because if you arent then thats your problem.  Soo by this post by You....I have tryed to flash with several types of DUMMY files(in size) with or without. Nothing at all changed.
Anyway, I will try it again and will look for the "FLASHING BANK 0"

Guess my cham is empty, no cromwell bios at all, tho I get the boot screen for the cd.....I assume you are just using the cromwell.  Right.  If so, you have found the prob.

mine also says please reboot and try again.  Also at the top of the screen it says, unable to recognize fatx sector and unable to recognize sector one.  Sometimes it searches the cd for a *.cfg (can't remember name of the .cfg exactly, removed and put x2 back in for the meantime).  Never says anything about flashing.  I have it installed on a v1.0 with seagate hdd and a pinheader soldered to wires to the lpc.  I'm also unsure if the blue led on the chameleon is supposed to blink, mine does.  I haven't tried using a dummy file.

well I got a question here, are you guys working with a "straight out of the factory" hard drive? or have you modified it anyway with a previous modchip or anything else?

cuz it also says it can't read my hdd sector and i had an enigmah in my xbox before and took out the original dashboard and put in a diff one.

Just a voice of support: I'm in the same boat as you guys.  I've tried what seems like everything but the Chameleon just freezes up when programming.

Well, in my case I'm using a pinheader that worked fine with my cheapmod.  Only now, after swapping to the Chameleon, am I having problems.  Is it the chip, the BIOS with its tempermental attitude towards temperature, or the media?  Well, I know it's not the media, but something just won't give.

fixed it...
i just flashed using the new utility, from xodus flashed it just fine
but was booting up and getting error 16, so I booted with evox cd, then it came up into evox...
found out my new mobo wasn't recognizing my old Hard drive, so I'm putting in new hard drive (80 gig) and transfering the C and E from a friends HD to it.. everything works great

I'm using two different chameleons in 2 diff xboxes; one previously unmodded.  I get the linux screen, but I never get a message about flashing the bios. Always, settings mode not done yet/reboot OR booting from cd, it says insert cd--I do, then it looks for linuxboot.cfg.  I've used dummy files and just the bios itself (LINUXBIO.BIN-I know)  I'm stumped, does anyone have a solution for this?  Guess I'll have to get a matrix programmer, but that really sucks.  I've got an X2 working in both.  Anyone?
