Attempt : Live Chameleon Assistance.
« on: June 03, 2003, 06:07:00 AM »

Xbox Version : V1.0
Installation Method : Quick Solder
What bios are you trying to install : Any
Do you have another Mod-Chip (Chameleon or not) : Not a flashable one
Do you need E/P (would you use mode 4) : Would be handy
Does the cromwell bios boot : Nope
Is the blue led on : Nope
Do you get a Red/Green (Front panel leds): Nope

Notes :
The points have been checked a number of times and I had an installer solder it who is pretty accomplished with soldering and told me it was a particularly easy install.  I cant see anything being wrong there.  The XBOX just boots directly to the MS Dash, I have tried changing all dips and still the same problem.

Thanks

Xbox Version : 1.2
Installation Method : Header
What bios are you trying to install : Any, but never got that far
Do you have another Mod-Chip (Chameleon or not) : Xecuter on a 1.0
Do you need E/P (would you use mode 4) : No
Does the cromwell bios boot : No
Is the blue led on : No
I have returned the Chameleon to EasyBuy2K for a new Chameleon. When I get it back I will be installing it on a V1.1 XBox. I'll post the results.
The symptoms for the 1.2 install is as such:
1- No Blue LED ever
2- Only FRAG, never a good boot.
3- Only installed with D0, never installed any other points.
4- System would power cycle 3 times then FRAG
5- Upon removing the D0 point system boots normally
6- Uninstalled and reinstalled several times, and used Multimeter to check contacts

2 - d0 and all solder are good, since i tested a Matrix directly on the PIN headers with d0 Grounded.

Quick question, but did not want to start a new thread, I've already posted my install but noticed that the Chameleon install by itself (Header, and Quick) never has a ground wire.
In all other XBox mods I've noticed that a ground is a required install.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Anyway to check the valaidity of the ground?
I reaching for straws here but this seems to be the only major deviation.

Xbox Version :1.0
Installation Method : Matrix Addon
What bios are you trying to install : N/A
Do you have another Mod-Chip (Chameleon or not) : Matrix- But it's been cut for mod.
Do you need E/P (would you use mode 4) : Not really.
Does the cromwell bios boot : No
Is the blue led on : It flashes, but never goes solid on.

Do you get a Red/Green (Front panel leds):Yes.
Notes (If needed . Not to long please) : I've verified that I cut the power connections beyond doubt. I've reseated the Matrix twice to ensure it wasn't just a little off. Both times I've gotten a green light. Like this the machine doesn't boot for obvious reason. When I add the Chamleon to the Matrix nothing changes and the machine continues to flash red and green on the front. The Matrix light flashes green, and the Cham flashes blue.

This sounds like a good idea, thanks for starting this process.

GND (ground) is the point on the LPC that is directly across from the square point. (next to the debug points).  it's in the corner closest to the front and side of the xbox.

Excellent, thanks for the info
Better to know and eliminate then to wonder and have more questions.
Thanks again

Hi there

It seems that people are having huge problems with this chip that can be cured instantly if you follow the instructions to the letter AND if your Not installing it yourself  make sure that who ever is installing it IS UPTO the job.

I was asked by

(ectoplasmatron, who posted at the start of this thread)

to look over his install that was done by a supposed "expert" ,that upon being told that the xbox wouldnt boot blamed the chip... when it was just a really shitty install job.. i have seen seagulls shit better than the way this chip had been soldered in.

now after I did a pin header install and D0,A15 and E+P points the chip just came alive no hassle no trouble it just did what it was supposed to.

And my secret  to sucess you may ask???  Being methodical, tackle ONE thing at a time and then CHECK that point OVER and OVER again until YOUR EXACTLY sure it's done RIGHT then progress on to the next thing  NOT blunder on hopefully.............

now im lucky as i do this for a living and i tend to get it right first time but this is only due to a LOT of practise.

electoplasmatronic was nearly jumping through hoops today at getting his box working...............

so SORRY to be OFF topic slightly but the moral is guys : be patient and methodical and IT WILL work FIRST time...........

Regards
