Chameleon Install POLL
« Reply #15 on: June 05, 2003, 11:43:00 AM »

I've been pondering this option that may have me in luck (that is, if the matrix programmer works with the chameleon). I wonder if the chameleon would work if it was plugged into the X2 pogopin adapter, and was set up as a pinheader install... I just wonder if this would be possible, since all the pogopin adapters seem to be based on Xodus-Team's design in the first place.   Just a thought...

Look people the Chameleon isntalls fine I did not use any of the tips on this page http://forums.xbox-s...=ST&f=9&t=60380

it installed fine the second time..??

the quick install sucks the little soder blobs they put on it broke off real easy so whay I ended up doing was puting the pinheaderpins into the lpc 1 at a time heat it up then push it through it worked np you just have to know what you are doing.

I sugest you do not use the quicksolder and if you do not know what you are doing do not do it get some one who knows basic soldering howtos

QUOTE (Chamolie @ Jun 5 2003, 07:05 PM)
blink.gif  I had no problem at all installing the Chameloen in mode 4. Everything works perfectly and flashing from the default Linux bios was simple. However, the user manual states that by powering the box using the power button that bank 1 will be selected. On my unit, bank 0 is selected. I just played around by flashing the different banks to figure this out. Also by downloading the user manual from Xodus and appending the recommended lines to the evox.ini makes flashing and booting from the your bank of choice, very innovative and user friendly options (perhaps for advanced users). If you have little or limited knowledge of chip installation, file manipulation or no common sense to read a user manual, this chip is not for you...

That was a typo on their part..... power button boots bank 0 and powereject boots bank 1...... just for future reference you dont have to flash diff bios to find out which bank you are using just go to system settings.... you can see in the chameleon section which bank is currently selected... smile.gif

Cheers!

Hi there

Well this will probably get me a flaming ........... but what the hell anything to spice life up a bit.

WTF is going on with some of you guys, this chip is so EASY to install and to get to work it's funny and sad seeing so many having problems.

I have just finished my third chameleon install now two on 1.0 boxes and one on a 1.1. and one of those was a "re-install" after a supposed expert tried to fit it.

And EVERY one of my installs went WITHOUT a hitch the chip just did as its supposed to do...

I usually fit only executer chips for my customers, but im thinking of swaping over to the chameleon as im mighty impressed with it.

Now im lucky I mod xboxes for a living and tend to get my installs right first time. but the main problem that seems to be appearing is that people need to  METHODICAL

Regards

Mark @ scotmods

This is the first time I used a soldering iron since I was modding Athlon slot type cpu's! But I have to say that everything went togather great! The only problem I had was doubting myself after I was done! Used the quick solder method and bam, 1 modded xbox! This was so easy to install!

Purchased 3 chips for install in 1.0 boxes. One of the three needed a bios flash, the other two were okay. I'm disapointed that I won't be able to use the X3 bios when it comes out with mode 4 on the chameleon. You can't access 512k banks with power and eject, only 256k. Oh well, at least with all of the soldering I have done with the pinheaders and panel header, I can switch the X3's in quickly!

I double checked all my sodler points on the pinheader and d0... turns out I just couldn't sodler properly  Resoldered all the pinheads (properly) and the chip now works fine

nothing2c: what was is it that you feel you were doing wrong on the soldering?   Maybe you could explain on that a bit more so the rest of us don't make any of the same mistakes.   Any tips?

I feel sorry for the people that had problems ..and got Redicule from some here!

They were right!  I recieved 2 chameleons ... and one didn't work with Programmer Software and the other Chip did work with Software ... but it showed that NO BIOS was found on CHIP!

So ...  2 wouldn't have worked for me as advertized ... if I had no programmer ... one chip is defective and the other didn't have Chromwell bios loaded! ...

Those that don't have a programmer have no way of knowing if their chip works or not ... or has bios loaded or not!
And I'm sure this NON-sense Ruined MANY XBOX's with people resoldering ,ect ... with people pulling out their hair ...  then coming to this FORUM to be told THEY were NEWBIE"S and didn't know what they were doing.

I guess some chameleons work ... but realize ... their really are chips that don't work!  and some that don't come pre-programmed!
