Chameleon Install POLL
« on: May 31, 2003, 04:51:00 PM »

Add any details that we all would find helpful.
Thanks
P.S. I just looked in my mail box and i have the 2 chameleons ... but I'm not doing anything with them ... until I get a clear picture ... of ... how many are having problems...
If 80 or 90 percent have no problems ..then I will attempt it ...
My TSOP is flashed already...  I don't want to SCREW up a working xbox!  Make sense? smile.gif

The Easybuy version DID come with the Pin Header, its stuck in the chip where the Pin Header would plug into. Just pull it out.

WOW!
So far 87 percent have had problems installing this and are PISSED off!

GEE ... i'm gonna hold off installing this chip ... until ... the dust clears....

I'm wondering if I should just send it back ... do they accept takebacks...if I didn't do anything to chip?

I had a few problems...
I installed it with the header pin... Didn'y gett any blue lights...
Looked at my solder job looked good resolder it again... No light...

My xbox was prepared for a cheapmod so i got the d0 grouunded directly to ground and thats is not a good idée...

I thought u didn't need to solder the d0 point to the chipp...

I didn't want to solder to the top d0 did that anyway and it's now prtty good... I love the ssoftware control..

I ddin't install alla futures just d0 but now i can tuurn on the orginal bios in evox so sweet biggrin.gif

And the pinheader is little ficked because sometimes I have to move the chip upp or down to get it boot.. badconnection don't knwo why sad.gif ...

Oops!?!  ohmy.gif
My Chameleon installation worked, it was my f*cking telly that did'nt work with the cromwell bios.
The Chameleon kept on flashing blue, that got me wondering (nothing about it in the manual mad.gif)

If you can't see sh*t on the telly (other than flickering crap), but your Chameleon flashes blue and ejects the tray, wait approx 30secs. then insert your bios cd, close tray, wait till your xbox turns off, turn it on again & watch it boot with your new bios (SWIING... biggrin.gif)!!!

They could have saved me alot of time, if they had described that in the install guide!"#¤!#"#!¤"??!!?. mad.gif

BTW! Xbox v1.0 pinheader install...   biggrin.gif

My Chameleon installed and worked for me the first time....this was my first ever solder experience and I did a pin header on a 1.0 board with a cheapmod allready installed... so i had to remove old chip and solder from lpc port, and I had to redo my d0 point cuz the connection from the previous chip came loose....0 problems.  Not sure how people can have problem installing this as an idiot such as myself actually pulled it off flawlessly.

Peace!

i'm gonna wait another week before i consider sending my chameleon back ... to see if more people can install this chip successfully ....
i wish a better poll could be made ... to truly reflect the percentage of people who did successfully installed this ...

because in this poll ... if you want to see results ... and didn't want to vote YET ... it sends in NULL vote ...and you can't vote  YES or NO when you come back latter .

I like the idea of 1 vote on person ...  so if the Poll results could be shown before you vote ... people could see the poll and then after they install their chip ... cast their vote.

blink.gif  I had no problem at all installing the Chameloen in mode 4. Everything works perfectly and flashing from the default Linux bios was simple. However, the user manual states that by powering the box using the power button that bank 1 will be selected. On my unit, bank 0 is selected. I just played around by flashing the different banks to figure this out. Also by downloading the user manual from Xodus and appending the recommended lines to the evox.ini makes flashing and booting from the your bank of choice, very innovative and user friendly options (perhaps for advanced users). If you have little or limited knowledge of chip installation, file manipulation or no common sense to read a user manual, this chip is not for you...
