My Problems with quicksolder
« Reply #15 on: May 27, 2003, 06:47:00 PM »

I also would like to state that I am not blaming the modchip however I dont think the mod should at all come with this oldschool soldering format look at the xecuter it comes with premade wire addon pretinned I am guessing and all. But the pin header again is fine, the matrix addon requires cutting tracks, I want to sell it and I want to be 100% sure it works fine, and I would also like to add that I am not claiming to be a pro I am just saying I had a lot of previous experience installing mods. I never had a problem with wires either. I have only encountered a problem with removing this chameleon anyways I had enought of this chat, peace

It wasn't easy to get the chip off. But it was my fault like I said. I was angry and mad at the installlation. sorry peace

By the way, you can very well still solder the Chameleon with wires, it's actually not difficult. It's just not pre-made and pre-stripped wires.

I find it amusing that ppl who are having trouble using the "pcb fue" method - or quick install method as its called are being bashed and ridiculed

when not so long ago Xecuter were the assholes for making this design as so many of you "experienced" solderers had trouble with it

the entire reason it was stopped was becuase that many ppl thought it LOOKED easy but screwed up when it didnt work by usually trying to remove it when it was simply a case of dry solder

newbies really should beware of this method TBH - we certainley wont be using it again

you sould all be installing Pin Headers - all of you

just think of those ppl who had an X2 and pin header and have decided to try a Cham out - the only thing Xodus did wrong was not to fit the d0 wire socket we made - then it would have been truly no solder for all pin header / x2 users

my advice - spend an extra 10 minutes and install a pin header - you can then fit all LPC mods forever with simply plug n play

I am not talking about using the pinheader, if I had the solder pump thats the way I would go for sure. And that would be easy, however I tried to use the alternative d0 point and with no success I just put the installation to rest. My beef with the chip is that it does not have a wire attachment like the xeceuter 2.

What about desolder braid?

You obviously can't solder worth of Toffee so why come on here and say a chip is cr@p?

Sort out your install and don't slag off chip.  If you can't solder a wire on a little point on the chip you shouldn't be installing the thing in the first place.

What is the problem with the x-ecuter 1 design??

I didn't have any soldering experience but I opened my xbox I trained on a board with big points (bigger than the lpc's)

I did first put some solder on the lpc's and put the chip in the points... (The lpc was now like tips so it was easy to fitt the chip)

Then i just out some solder on the iron and tuched the lpc's and the solder flowed over to the chip and mobo and it maked a very good contact...

So u don't need m,uch soldering exp... But u may need to place some solder on the lpc's.. And practise a little bit...

Sorry fro my poor ENGLISH

wink.gif

thanks for sticking up for me though lol  biggrin.gif

I loved the design and it was very easy (for me) im just referring to many hundreds who had many many problems (usually due to dry joint on first install - then they tried to remove it - THAT was always the mistake - dont try to remove it - just use lots of flux and solder)

if you screw it up and need to remove it - well the odds are you are not a good solderer so using braid / pump aint gonna help you - take it to a professional

i know xecuter / xodus are in competition - but i'd hate to see any xbox users screw up their console no matter what mod they were using (they wouldn't be able to buy an X3 if they didn't have an xbox lol biggrin.gif )

Thank you for all your replies however this pcb fue install "quick solder install" should not be used unless u have a solder pump that is what I would say. And ubergeek what is this "d0 wire socket" u are speaking of?
