Stealth Mode Chameleon = Xblive + Backups?
« on: May 26, 2003, 06:42:00 PM »

I got my chameleon ordered too, but  this is off topic to your question... I was wondering how exactly would I have to do to disable xbox live from detecting this mod chip?

You need to turn off your modchip before turning on your xbox and going on XBox Live so that it detects the original MS bios.

I suggest nobody try this.  It won't work, and you will get banned.

I know that, but how would I disable this modchip? is there a switch? I'm totally new to modding this xbox. This is my first time moding a xbox.

Read the manual that came with the modchip to find out how to disable it.

Here's the problem I see. If the chip goes into "stealth" mode, then when you get to a new point in your game, it won't load cause it will be using the orig BIOS to load new data into cache. And, because you are loading from a backup, then the orig BIOS will reject it. I don't think it's gonna solve the Live problem. It's a step in the right direction. The VP of M$ home and entertainment division already stated that if Live is hacked, they will release a patch to circumvent the hack. Check it out here. So, don't hold your breath.

and this means that they have a pretty good idea of how we could achieve this... but at the same time... I think once it's hacked and patched once that's enough... the REAL hackers will have proved themselves once again and that's it... live should be untouched after that.

EDIT: After reading my post it seemed like I was making it out so I looked like a REAL hacker... well I am not in any way shape or form. I only wish I could be.

AFAIK, the media check would only be done in the startup routines of an xbe.  The programmers surely wouldn't care about it while writing their engines, and the OS probably only checks it when loading the file initially (if I'm wrong, speak up).

I doubt many of you have seen what's on the Chameleon's CPLD.  For all we know (ignoring the fact that I know very little about the LPC bus or MS's use of it in the Xbox) it oculd be possible for the chip to force the original TSOP flah rom BIOS into RAM sometime after the bootup code runs.  To anyone with a spare EEPROM and a wanton disregard for their current one getting banned, I say give it a shot and let us know what gives.
