My Xbox Failing To Boot Sometimes... + Crashes

QUOTE (Social-Zero @ May 21 2003, 11:20 AM)
I have a Matrix mod chip and evox dashboard and xboxmediaplayer2.6 installed.
Normally i just set the chip on mode 3 and so i can use the eject trick.
I just played games , watched movies for a week cause I ( Only got my chip a week or 2 ago )

Now lately I have been getting problems. Such as

Xbox loading the xbox logo movie and freezes while playing it.
So than I reboot and than the light goes on and than off again quickly and than i wait and it loads after all but i just get pitch black , no logo , nothing. So I turn it of , wait for a while , turn it back on and than it freezes again untill I try some more and than when it has finnaly booted up with no crashes , I get crashes in the evox dashboard orr when selecting a game from the menu or even in game ( roller coaster tycoon & kung fu master both froze )

Any idea's on what's going on?

The main thing is what BIOS you are using? You mention mediaplayer v2.6, but it's only up to v2.3 so I think maybe you are using EvoX BIOS 2.6?

I'd recommend the Xecuter 2 v4976.02 which I have on my Matrix chip and works fine with everything I throw at it.

Check out this tutorial to flash your chip from within  the EvoX dashboard, it works like a charm.

Hope this helps.

Damn over heating problem.... sad.gif

Did you try changing the case fan and putting the HD external?

But.. I know.. It may be too late if it's already fried....

Does anyone know how this overheating problem is caused in the first place, as I've never had any of those aforementioned problems, and I am also running a Matrix mod chip aswell. Strange, isnt' it?

Well.. The original hard drive xbox came with was running 54000 RPM (10 Gig).

If you install a mod chip (MAtrix, or whatever else).. And you change the hard drive to
a 80/120 gig.. Chances are VERY good your running a hard drive going 7200 RPM.
This creates alot more heat..

This is the reason it over heats and makes your xbox randomly crash....

I myself removed the RF shielding from the top of the box, changed the fan from a 60mm to a 70mm, zalman's quiet fan.

But the one biggest mod that affected the heat problem was putting the hard drive external...

Something to try..

Is it possible that the onboard bios may have been corrupted, or is that pretty much fail proof unless you force-flash the motherboard. Could anyone confirm whether or not installing a Matrix mod chip (or any mod chip for that matter) could have an effect on the outcome of whatever happens to the xbox. I refuse to believe that Social-Zero's xbox could possibly be dead after a simple mod chip installation until we have concrete evidence of it. As he stated, there are no signs of over-heating problems at all and no real hardware modifications.

What could have possibly gone wrong here?

Also, the chip has now been removed from the xbox, so there are no faulty bioses to speak of, that could be overriding the original bios and thus creating a malfunction.

does anyone even have an answer for the problem yet. i have the same problem, i have the matrix and a v1.1 xbox.

ive aligned it correctly, test mode flashed green for a split sec and then red afterwards.

but when i power up the machine, its turns on, then off, then on, then off, then on and the led around the eject button flashes red and green.

my motherboard is definately not dead, there is no problems with it whatso ever as i have made no mods to it. i havent even tried using xbox live.............yet.

so whats the deal?

when i took out the chip the problem remained the same so.
I am getting hope because more people are having this problem.

The motherboard still looks 100% fine
