I Wanna Get The Matrix Mod... Gimme The Lowdown!
« on: May 10, 2003, 09:56:00 PM »

This is my first post on these forums!!!! Tonight I have decided that I will soon purchase the Matrix Mod... mainly this mod for 2 reasons, I dont know howto solder (and wont learn) and mode 3 allows XBL play!!! Now, can someone gimme the lowdown on this chip and what I must know bout it!??!

Questions:
-Where should I buy it from
-What are important things I should know
-What are some of the sweet things I can do with it
-How easy is install for a noob
-What are the chances of breaking my XBOX
-Am I making the right choice

*I got the xbox with the 2 free games... so I think that is version 1.1*

Please respond ASAP, and answer as many questions as possible.

Look dude all I can say is it's an OK chip but it's limited to 256k bios. Pogo pins suck, so take my advise and solder it in with pin a header, but that beats the point now don't it... So buy an X2 or a chameleon and stay away from pogo pins...Get it installed by a pro if you don't want to solder...You'll be greatful that you soldered it in...
Otherwise get it and try your luck, It's not idiot proof. People have damaged things with it and a 5 min mod has taken some people 8 hrs... laugh.gif  That's after you have successfully flashed it with the programmer... blink.gif  jester.gif

The point of me getting this chip is NO SOLDERING... and I dont wanna pay extra for a pro, if I got a pro I'd get a soldering chip tongue.gif Keep the answers coming!

PS I'm not trying to do nething amazing with this chip... just play "backups  wink.gif " and install evox with media player and maybe other software

NO shit dude...I know you don't want to solder...
But all I told you was that pogo pins suck...
By all means go buy a matrix...Shit I got one and I'm telling you that you will have fuckin alignment problems..
That's why I soldered it in, and that's why I'm telling you to do the same...OR get another chip...
YOUR another one of those noobs which is expecting a miracle answer on chip selection...You can't have the best of both worlds and have an easy installed pogo pin chip (which can be a nightmare just ask some people..) and not have dramas...If you don't wanna listen then by all means get the matrix, BUT when you have alignment problem and your box doesn't boot that's right NOT if, BUT when you do, You will feel like a tool coz you didn't get a solder in mod and you had to solder it anyway...

i got a matrix and had no trouble installing it at all.  took a few seconds once i got my xbox apart.  Its been on quite a few car trips and is takin between my dorm and house all the time without ever having an alignment problem.  I dont know what you guys are talkin about, but the matrix is great if you want to solder or not, how many of us need the extra memory?  But if you wanted a few more features you hould have bought the chameleon when it was $25.

I dont know what you guys are talkin about,.....

Well if you weren't a n00b with only three posts you would know what we are talking about.

Once you've been here a while you'll notice there are many people in this forum asking about soldering no-solder modchips, you'll also see many people selling solderless adapters for the X2 and Matrix chips because they decided to go with a soldered solution.

You need to use a larger gauge and slightly longer screw so it bites in to the plastic deeper...I too tried this method and sure it worked for a while but alas, the same thing happened..
Yeh don't worry about your xbox just sitting there and not being moved and expect it to be OK..I had mine and a few others which didn't move for 3-4 months then bang, one morning flashing trouble codes...
Well try it, it's up to you.... beerchug.gif

Check the serial no's....generally xxxx3  = ver1.0
                                                    xxxx5 = ver1.1
Manufacture date around 15 sep 2002 and later ver 1.1..
But this ain't gospel...There are acceptions..
