My optimistic 2 cents on things:

I believe Xodus tried to make a product that would equal 25 bucks.

Unfortunately, the reality of things is that selling a chameleon for 25 bucks would hurt them more than help them. Do you seriously expect them to thus sell the Chameleon at 25 dollars still?

No, i think that is unreasonable - why should they do something that hurts them as a company. I was expecting EB2k to cancel all our orders, but i think that having the Chameleon sell for 25 until May 8 is a nice gesture.

I'll be honest, i dont know much about the modchip industry. I dont know how much R&D costs, or the cost required to manufacture chips, or import taxes or whatnot. I've noticed a lot of hate towards Xodus, some criticisms are well-thought - but much of it is simple bandwagoning. "Oh no, they didn't explain this feature" "Oh no, they're lying to us." Blah blah. 39 bucks is still a decent price for the chameleon.

It's on Team XODUS's website and XBOX-SCENE's news section...

And to the main poster of this thread. Have you ever created a mod chip? You have no clue how much the parts cost, how much time it takes to develop a mod chip (schematics, deciding what parts to use, etc.), and how much labor it takes to build one. I was extremely suprised that Team XODUS would sell their chip for $25 (as I used to build and sell cheapmods). If you want it for $25 bucks then you better get on your ass and order it before May 8th. You still have a few days left, otherwise don't whine...

Other well respected representatives in the industry have also stated that $25 was an unbelievable deal and that they would not sell the chip for that price. Even at $39, the pricing of the chip is still competitive to all the other chips on the market, as all the other comparable chips on the market sell for about that price.

If if it was only a case in which they stated that they had to increase the price from $25 to $40, I don't think it would be as much of a deal.  They cited why, which is fine.  But they really hyped the pricetag (evidently before considering wholesale?!) and prodded Team Xecutor with it.

Also, at a $15 increase, it is more expensive than X2 Lites (from SMT) and only slightly cheaper than the X2 Pro.  I've preordered 3 just in case anyone wants me to install one for them, but I'll wait until the X3 before I consider moving away from my X2 Pro.

hey, i preordered mine two minutes ago, and i think it'll be a 30 dollars well spent.  I LOVE my Matrix (I installed my 29 wire enigmah with NO problems, so i'm not a no-solder pussy if anyone was thinking that).  It went in with no problem, it flashes on the fly with evox perfectly, works flawlessly, and makes it easy to switch off and go retail.  For the Chameleon to have software controllable everything (i think...), 1MB BIOS, and all its other features, i think people should at least give it a chance until they start bashing it.

Yeh I can't believe the price increase, and its not like a little say $5 but a huge increase!

I've known and been saying that they'd increase the price for several months, all I got was..

"That's bullshit, Gain".

Anyway, all I know is that the X2P has exactly the same features as the chamelion (+ External programmer and - "Stealth"), the $14 difference is worth it to me.

So, I say it's probably worth it to buy this thing as long as you do it before may 8th. After that, give $14 more to the team that gives us the best BIOSes and what should turn out to be the best dash (especially if BenJ gets in on it ).

The original design and idea for the matrix addon (now chameleon) was for .... Matrix customers ... a way to upgrade their unit  (first time any mod designer has attempted to do )  ... it later .. after many months of development changed into something that could easily be marketed as a standalone unit... .. what whould you do ?

Well, Team Xodus is claiming that the reason for the increase in price is due to the fact that they are surprised by the interest in wholesale orders.  Well, considering that they did and still do sell the MatriX at wholesale, what would make them think that they wouldn't sell the Chameleon at wholesale?  As I said, they're either lying or stupid...
