My mate has managed to get the menu come up on his comp but he gets some error when he try's to flash, i dont know what he means completely but do you think this could be a result of a dodgy bios. the one i told him to use was an evox one i split with hex editor after following the tutorials.

ohmy.gif  Move the slightest bit and the connection may be lost and you have to start over.  mad.gif

I use milk in a command prompt window in WinXP on my Dell Latitude P2 233mhz laptop.  It's easier to reach behind the laptop than it is to reach behind my desktop.

The general consensus on the forums is that flashing the matrix may not work with all computers, so try a few different ones.  Good luck!

thanks for the friendly good luck, but its been 10 computers now (no shit) . i'm curious on how to use milk, but the flashing isnt the problem. it is getting past the windows error, "not detected try different port number and make its connected one" and i've already tried holding it in, in every position possible. i've tried more god dam positions than there is foreigners in Chelesea FC.

QUOTE (DizzyT @ Mar 28 2003, 10:07 AM)
You may need to manually hold the matrix in place.  I squeeze the matrix and programmer between my index finger and thumb and then push the whole unit into the back of my computer while flashing.  It takes 2-3 minutes to flash.  So it can be a pain, and your fingers may get sore.  ohmy.gif  Move the slightest bit and the connection may be lost and you have to start over.  mad.gif

DizzyT, ju are now my new hero.

I tried to flash like all night, and kept getting the errors, "Error erasing device" and "Error programming device"

So this morning, I was hella grouchy and tried your advice of squeezing and pushing the mod chip on the back of the puter, then hold it there while it flashed. I was pushing with like 300 PSI. AND IT FREAKIN WORKED. Probably would even have worked with less pressure.  biggrin.gif

i read once that the Matrix Programmer is fussy about batteries so check with a few different batteries.

Well I was in your same boat and was ready to give up too.  I was using mine and friends computers with no luck, then decided today to bring my chip/programmer to work.  My work machine didn't work, then I tried our development machine and it actually worked without me having to squeeze or hold the programmer.  Took much much longer than 3 minutes to flash...I'd say 30 minutes was more like it but it finished successfully.  Now from the sound of things I never will need to do that again and can flash via a CD-RW from now on.  I'm heading out to lunch (U.S. timezone) and when I get back I'll get you the breakdown on the specs for that machine.  Maybe it will help you.  In fact, everyone that has gotten it to work should report their specs for CPU speed, type (INTEL, AMD, other), OS version and any service packs, and maybe even total RAM.  It might even be more linked to the motherboard itself as that's where the LPT port is.

ph34r.gif ) of my games and this stupid green plastic wont let me play them.

Well I should be complaing so much just yet, since I've only been trying for 20 hours but my patience has been used up waiting for easybuy.  Tried different batteries (some brand new) and piching harder than is required to make purple nurples and the dam chip just sits and flashes its stupid red light at me.

I have Dell OptiPlex GX1 Pentium II 350MZ  Windows 98SE

any one know if this dell works before I run off to college and try about 100 different computers while hidiing from administrators?
