What I recommend and did.
Get your matrix, get a new 9v battery and get ready to flash - if it wont flash first time, reboot the pc. it will do it - push it in to the port harder if needed. Flash with the x2_4974_256k bios.
Once you have flashed you are ready to fit. Firstly locate the positioning pins, and clean them. Once cleaned, take out the screw and put the modchip in. Screw it down gently (until fairly secure.) Then power up the xbox. If it flashes red you are almost in the right place, if it doesn't flash straight away it isnt. Move it around a little bit - it will start to flash, as soon as it flashes green you are close. Make sure it is flashing brightly.
Once the light is flashing, switch it to another mode, when the xbox is on. Then when you reboot it will kick in. The reason for using the x2_4974_256k bios is that when it boots up it will say Xecuter2 under the XBOX logo on the boot screen - very useful! If this doesnt work then you should turn off and apply a bit of force on the chip (d0) and then try again - this normally kicks in. You will need to tighten the screw.
If you get the on/off problem - simple fix is to move the mod chip a TINY TINY TINY amount.
Anyway - once you have done this. Get your Slayer CD downloaded - don't bother with anything else.
This is my guide to make a media work.
Write anything to the CD - doesn't matter - (CDRW of course!) then compeltely erase this - then write to the CD the slayer install. Simply drop this in the drive and you are rocking.
I would then recommend connecting it to your PC/Lan and having a play - this is a nice touch. - I didn't realise this would open the xbox up so much. If you are going to have it plugged in all the time routed to the 'net i would recommend not having port forwarding to it since someone will prob try and hack via telnet.
I have played with a few bios's and a few other things - any problems / questions - then post. I think what I have said above will help a lot of you.
