Can someone once and for all go over the LED blinks for MODE1 on a v1.1 xbox?  I've read a couple different things now.  One person said the v1.1 will only flash green right when it's turned on, another said a v1.1 will never flash green, only red.  Another said that the v1.1 + Matrix LED is unreliable, so just check it out when hooked up.  Anybody have the right answer to this question?  My v1.0 install went perfectly with the matrix, but I (gulp) broke the dvd try when it fell and had to exchange it for a v1.1 (at least I got a philips instead of thomson).

first up, the thompson drive is cool, i like mine!!

second, the matrix will flash green once on a v1.1, and only when it is powered up, then it is all red baby.  THATS THE ANSWER!!    sorry, but sooooo many people ask this.

third, you are better to bolt it to the motherboard but the key to alignment is to use a washer above AND below the chip when you use a bigger screw.  make sure you apply pressure to the chip on the opposite side to the screw and press clockwise and down as you tighten things up.

OBVIOUSLY this may not be gospel, but it has worked for me twice perfectly.  it takes some time, but the whole pressure thing is good, try it.

xboxing, what does it mean? does it mean even if aligned correctly, the LED will flash red? I am very positive that I have aligned my pogo with D0 (by using sticky tape surrending D0) and I still got red flashes. and my xbox won't switch off, and it switches itself off in around 1min. What went wrong??

Thanks

you'll get ONE green, then all red.

that switch off thing is cause the bios is screwing up (losing alignment probably)

Thanks xboxing.  I should have reposted that I just went and installed it.  I do indeed get a single green flash followed by all red flashing when in mode 1.  I had a color mod D.6 and fired it up.  It works fine.  All I did for prep was clean the contacts and pogo pins, the took a pin and scrapped slightly at the D0 hole to make sure.  Worked perfectly.  Didn't need to bolt anything, just used the larger screw from spotted-horse.

Xboxing,

You said that on a v1.1 board you get 1 green then all red flashing? Well, I have a v1.0 board and over the weekend until last night I soldered in Header Pins to the LPCs and them soldered a ribbon cable to the Matrix. I had in the past gotten a flashing green LED on the Matrix after aligning it properly (like an hour), but when directly connected via Header Pins, I get 1 green flash, then flashing red. I was pissed off thinking that the red meant that it wasn't aligned properly (which seems impossible with a direct connection), but after switching to Mode4 and firing up the system, the Evox Dash came right up! Is it possible that the 1 green, then all reds is a v1.1 as well as v1.0 when attached to Header Pins? Seems to be the situation in my case. What cha think?

ive got v1.1 xbox and the matrix and this is how i got it working....

firstly filled the LPC holes up with solder , then flashed a colour bios to my chip.

then , dont trust ANY of the alignment lights.....I used to get the brief flash of green before i filled in the LPC holes, and my chip didnt work then....

anyway , line up your matrix in mode 2 (dip 1 , 2 off (i think!?!?!?)  then when you *think* its lined up properly, switch on your xbox with hard drive and dvd drive plugged in , and see if it boots! you'll know if it is aligned because your xbox logo will be a different colour.

Another tip, this helped me slightly when i had to reflash my chip and had to align it again...
when screwing the chip down with the original screw, you will see 4 dots around the screw which are on the
matrix top , if you aim to get the screw in the centre of these dots and SLIGHTLY to the left, it should be a good tip, it works for me everytime.

also the bottom of the chip should be parallel to the dvd drive IDE port but about 2mm away from it....

hope this helped , its how i got mine working....

yeh, it will flash green once, however if you are getting frustrated after perhaps 10mins of installation and still having seen nothing it is very worthwhile reconnecting it to the pc and reflashing with a different bios.  I had a blue mod which turned out to be faulty and even after having chipped 10boxes already it took me about 5mins to realise this.  Just keep it in mind, dont panic and stuff lol and after a few tries you will get it to either flash green or stay permenantly green depending on whether your box is 1.1 or 1.0 respectively.  Chris
