I got the Matrix and it was all a hassle at first too.  It kept saying unable to erase chip when I tried to flash that joint.  The trick is to pinch the mod chip to the programmer when you are programming it and do it until it finishes.  It works well liek that.  I tried to flash mine with evox 2.6, and the xbox rebooted 3 times and didnt work.  Eventually I said fuck it and flashed it with e2 4974 and it works.

Gotta pinch the connection bro - You cannot let it go until you have completely flashed also, you might want to try different PC's for some odd reason people have gotten theirs to work this way.

Good Luck

Yeah. Pinch it. I can usually let it go once it startes though. Also, make sur no cables are touching the chip and programmer while it fashes. It can move the chip and screw up the programing.

When using the programmer with a PC to flash the Matrix chip, the DIP settings do not matter as the flash programmer works whichever mode your Matrix is in.

The flash option on the chip is to allow software flashing via EvoX etc.

And I also have to hold the chip to the programmer throughout the entire flash process, however it is a little easier for me since I have always used a parallel extension cable to flash my mod and not had any other probs.
