I have tried making boot disks without the EvolutionX dashboard and just the Config magic default.xbe in the root directory, but it won't start it. Everytime is looks like it is about to start the program for a split second (displays red color that could be the splash screen), and then kicks back to the "...contact MS" screen. It's so brief that you almost don't see it. The same thing happens if I boot into EvolutionX from the disk, and then try to run Config Magic from the dashboard. Screen flickers with a little color, then kicked back.

I can't seem to get any programs to run other than the EvolutionX dashboard...but that seems odd to me. If anyone has any more ideas, please drop a line.

Just to add some more info - whenever I try to run a program like Config Magic(either from the dashboard or making a boot disk with that program only), I get an error code of 21. I'm not sure exactly what that error code means...

21 - anywhere - This error says that the machine was booted to display a error, basically someone told the machine to reboot (or launch a xbe) with this flag, and the error code just means its been rebooted by the flag

That kinda helps...at least the error code matches the problem.

I'm at work now, so bumping to hopefully get some more helpful replies before I get home.

Well after trolling the forums and finding more info here, I flashed my Matrix with both the X2 4974 and X2 4972 bios. After booting (with EvolutionX boot disk, and no disk at all), it gave me the standard "...needs service..." and an error code of 06 - which apparently is a kernel error: unable to unlock the harddrive. So, no success...The only other options I can think of are to get a different Mod like the X2:Lite, or a new Xbox. The X2:Lite will be my first choice (I think I can pawn off my matrix on a friend for a good price), and getting a new Xbox will be my last resort. Both of these options cost money, so I'm not gonna jump the gun yet. So I shall continue to bump this thread over the weekend in hopes of getting a solution. Come Monday, if I have no answer, then I guess I order an X2.

In grand fashion - bump

If basicaly the error your getting is trhat it now can't unock the harddisk, had you considered trying booting with a different (unlocked) hdd and resoting your eeprom?

Just a thought
