Dreaded 3 Reset Problem W/ Matrix
« on: January 07, 2003, 10:41:00 AM »

Might be a faulty chip.  The 3 reset thing seems to happen when one of the pogos other than the d0 one isn't touching properly.  Try to press down on the chip over the lpc pogos, and then turn on the xbox (while still pressing down on the matrix).  If it's still doing the 3 reset dance, I'd send it back for a replacement.

Sounds like I should try this when the chip is in mode 2, am I right?

All the pogo pins spring properly and I've screwed the chip down tight before.  I guess I can give it another go.

i had this same problem....looks like u have done most of what i did but here's what i did:
I got rubbing alcohol and some q-tips and i cleaned off all the pogo pins and the LPC points....
Also make sure that one of the LPC points solder isnt a little higer than the others...shouldnt be a problem but if one is then mash it down a   little.
Then reflash the bios (maybe trying a different one, maybe ur got a bad one?) and then install and see what happens.
Either u have a bad bios or one of the LPC points inst connecting properly.

I also used compressed air to dry out the area before turning the power on.

try a different chip in the trouble box, if it works then you know your board contacts are not the problem.
next check the traces on the matrix maybe one of them is broken or there is a short. if your matrix flashed from the lpt correctly then that only says that the traces from the lpt header are ok, however you could still have a short on the other side.
lastly make sure that all is clean.

hope this helps. . .

Giving up on it.  Sending it back for RMA.

Thanks for all the feedback.
