I tried to fix it but it wasnt happening so I just removed them all. It actually worked well because it left a hole for the wires to solder into.
I used my ohms tester to make sure the right wires on the ide cable were going to the right place.

This wasnt really a guide LOL just kinda an explanation.

I heard some mention of using a multimeter to check that nothing is shorting out anywhere, but I have 2 problems:

1. I don't have one
2. I have never used one and don't know how to do this test.

I am going to buy one today after work. Could anyone give me a quick tutorial (or point me to one on the net) to check the connections on the xbox for shorts? I appreciate any input from anyone!

and seriously, whats so special about this, and i can't say i would call this a hack?! you've just put som xtension cables to your matrix. No Offence though

Apparently when you install the Matrix mod using Header Pins, the Alignment portion of the installation is a bit different. Rather than getting a flashing green LED, you will get 1 green flash, then red flashes. I experienced this last night and tried for a long time to figure out how I could not be aligned properly when directly connected to the LPCs, but after switching to mode4 (I don't want to mess with opening up the xbox every time I flash) it fired right up with no problems. Today I saw a post from someone else stating that this was how the Matrix behaved on the v1.1 boards when you try to align it, but I have a v1.0 board. When I originally installed the Matrix the "solderless" <laugh> way, it did eventually give me flashing green, but for some reason (I have no idea) if you connect with Pin Headers, you get 1 green, then all reds. Just an FYI if anyone else, like me, was pulling out your hair trying to align something that is directly connected. Did you experience this too Sheriff??

I worry a little about drilling out the LPC holes, never done anything like that...I desoldered em
See if it works and let us know.
Also to an early post about it not really being a hack. Well I am sure you are right. no biggie I was just having fun and wanted to share

I sent in an e-mail to Xodus asking them about it. I see on thier website that they have a news update that they are making a "NEW" install manual and they say:

"The matrix installation manual will be updated ASAP regarding the alignment problems experienced with the v1.1 boxes. (For now rough guide is: any green flash no matter how quick, while booting the console, may be considered as a good alignment.) There are ways to obtain the green flashing, please bare with us while we finalize our tests."

Looks like they are aware of the 1 green flash issue.
