Error 16 With Matrix Installed
« on: January 03, 2003, 07:02:00 PM »

Is this a new harddrive?
If so, have you installed all the files on it, including the backup from the original.
If not, have you modified any files on the drive?
Post here all info about the drive and what changes you've made to it.

Welp...did you happen to make a backup of your C and E drives?  If so, backup your current ones and then restore the original backups.
To do this, try throwing Evolution-X onto a CDRW and boot off of it.
If you haven't made the backup, there is a version of Evolution-X out there, called something like "Evolution-X New HD" which has backups of C and E on it.  You can use those, but make sure you backup the ones currently on your drive first just in case the new files aren't compatible with your machine...particularly the dashboard.
Unfortunately I can't tell you where to get them, and if you ask, the mods will lock this thread.  BUt, if you don't know, do some hard searching through some old posts on this forum and you will come across some answers that will give you enough of a hint to find it.

similar problem here with the 16 - dashboard error.

My xbox won't boot any cds either. I installed an x2 lite and I sold my orig HD awhile back. I thought thats why it won't boot because i never backed up my original HD BUT people have told me it should atleast boot some discs???

I know what your problem is, you need to flash your matrix with a new Bios, I flashed mine with a Red colormod and it gave me this same error, this bios looks for a specific file that is not there.  A few do that, all you need to do is use the D6 new EvoX bios.  I have a V1.0 and that's what I did with mine and it worked perfect, also you can use a blue naomi colormod that should work also, just keep trying different bios, that is DEFENITLY the problem.

even if the hd didn't have anything on it if the x2 is in properly which from the pics it is, then the cd-rw or the dvd-r should have booted either way. do u hav any friends that can confirm the media your using works or are u burning it right?

well u would have to set the clock for the booting of the d:, i have modded an untouched xbox and installed xecuter2 lite and didn't set the clock, but still got the xecuter2 sign on the xbox logo screen, but that was with the original drive first, i set the time and then put the 100gig hd in there and it booted fine with the time set. i really don't see the reason, as long as u set the time just once, then it should still work. when i modded my first xbox with xecuter 1.0 i had to set the time every time, with the x2lite i didn't.

Can u add new drive to XBOX without having hddkey.bin, eeprom.bin, disk.bin and bios.bin from original XBOX? Looks like my drive died and since I don't have backup and guaranty is broken, I want to add new HD... How do I do that?

I have come across this myself.
have been using superfro 2.5 colormod for some time now.. until recently..

I have also come across the "clock" thing... I cant be for sure whether that was it or not.. because I changed bios' also at same time on matrix.

Anyway I had to use d6 (i used eject fix even though I know I don't need to)
also... I had to use a PC DVD drive.

Even though media worked before it didn't on these machines.. for some strange reason..
anyway have you also tried NERO 5.5.10  that has the XBOX  OPTION for creating disks?  It may make a huge difference.  It works great.. for dvd's also.

anyway .. I just had to reflash matrix with d6 also did a re verify just to make sure..
and eveything worked ONCE i put on pc dvd drive also.
