Make sure you get a low wattage one ie 25watts..Fine tip Otherwise you'll cook it. Soldering isn't that hard but I suppose thats coz I done it for 9yrs. Just tin the iron first then slowly heat the LPC point and if the solder doesn't flow from the iron just dab solder onto the tip of iron it will flow.
Look leave the washer on there. Just line it up then stick tape on it to hold it place. There are some components there I'd hate for you to short something out....This would be bad...
But once you solder everything there should be enough clearance.
I think that the washer helps grip the chip aswell to aid in it being more secure..
