I have a v1.0 xbox i had the same problem as u did

Its not hard to sort.. Keep try to align it... make sure D0 is completely touching... and also hold the chip down post back 2 see how it went if u can get a screen shot of ure matrix upside down and the lpc points with d0

The best advice that can be given in this situations is to try different BIOSs. Use colormods to make sure the mod is booting, and make sure it isn't trying to boot to a dash you don't have on your Xbox i.e. ybox, neXgen, etc.

Yo jabthehut!

Filling the holes with solder is really easy. Everyone can do it, just use a soldering iron with a fine tip (pencil-type, 10$) and thin solder-wire. Heat the iron, put the tip into one of the holes and melt some solder on the iron. Remove the iron and the solder should go into the hole.
Practice a bit on some old radio-board or something similar.

I used the normal 3.6 Evox bios which did fine.

I had to use a new screw, because the old one was too short. It's a #6 1/2" metal sheet screw.
If you are from Europe, go for a M3, 15mm that'll be fine too.

Good luck,

the guys who say solder the holes are 100 percent correct
for some reason the matrix chip isnt 100 percent no solder for the xbox 1.1. now i know some people have had no probs fitting a matrix to a 1.1 and others  [like me] have found it a knightmare
the chip just doesnt sit right no matter what u do which leads me to believe there may be different spec matrix chips flying around
some better for 1.1 than others.....
after much matrix aligning, threading screw holders, scraping  the tracks around d0 and ultimately trying to force the matrix into place i filled in holes 1 and five [any combo with a space should do] with a drop of solder just to level the chip [theres no need to solder all holes] hey presto it was aligned within 30 seconds
there is clearly some design fault in some matrix chips concerning the 1.1 board although these chips install in under 30 seconds in a 1.0 board for obvious reasons, i installed the same chip into my friends 1.0 in record time 15 seconds or summing
so the bottom line is if you have a matrix and 1.1 that u cant get working you have no choice but to solder 2 or more holes closed or else the continual aligning will damage the tracks around d0
especially if your not careful with the nut and bolt method do not  tighten the chip while it is misaligned
after all the heartache [3 days] itook the plunge soldered and am now very happy with my matrix

if your getting the classic 3 automatic resets, or any type of disk not reckognised error, or the bios clock screen then you must solder your problem is misalignment
only thing i need to work out now is why some games that worked flawlessly on my cheapmod 29 wire x ecuter 2 flashed mod now  run but with sound only and a black screen no graphics
obviously a bios problem i hope .... apart from maybe reflashing to a diff bios im pretty happy

anyone without a soldering iron [im sure theres loads] or those who dont trust themselves with a soldering iron have a very simple solution
take ur xbox case without hd and dvd unit to your local televison\electrical repair shop and just ask them to fill the holes in for you its less than a minutes work for them and shouldnt cost more than a few dollars\pounds [make sure the only work they need to do is just lift the lid and solder smile.gif] make sure the solder is level with no peaks before you leave ground urself and run your finger over the holes

The v1.1 has a very small change in the installation procedure when you using the Test mode 1 You can only get a flashing green for a split second and then it goes back to red (only on v1.1) Remember to use evox 3.6 as a bios and to go to mode 2 when you see the split second of flashing green on mode 1. hope this helps wink.gif

heh ull get ur matrix working no time if it helps put your matrix in mode 2 forget testmode it aint worth **** on 1.1
for 3 days i was testing my matrix with the xbox on no problems for me but you will waste a lot of time using testmode to align the chip, well i did anyway
insert the matrix and screw\align it into place select mode 2 make sure you can move the matrix slightly and turn on xbox
let the xbox do its thing now dont turn it off
you need to now start moving the matrix around if you have 2 soldered holes it will kinda lock into position  now when you are close to aligning the chip in mode 2 you will see the red led going brighter and fading depending on chip movement keep moving the matrix and after a minute or even sooner you may see flashes of green from the led you need to align it so the green led light is constantly very bright if it looks dim its not aligned this is very important once you have the bright green light screw the matrix down  take your hands away and make sure the light is still bright green, your xbox should work how you want it too

im gonna dl the ntsc player later but its very strange cos i have 2 xbox in front of my they are both pal october 1.1 but have the matrix and cheapmod why would it happen i havnt found out even after checking options im gonna dl the ntsc converter and try that out ill let you know what happens smile.gif good luck man

Good stuff, I'll have a go at aligning it again tomorrow hopefully, it all makes sense in my head now anyway. smile.gif
I was too busy assuming the test mode would work fine to try any other alignments.

Turn off PAL 60 in the video options and widescreen mode if you use it and test to see if your game loads properly, you'll need to swap it to NTSC though to get the benefits of widescreen. If you notice skips in the FMV videos sequences of games, swapping it to NTSC should sort this annoyance too.

I dunno what your guys's problem is but aligning mine is a breeze. I screw it in far enough but not too far and move it back and forth until i see green then I find that green and screw it in tighter(but not too tight.)

00  0
000000             crap diagram of matrix pogopoints

_d0
the pogo pins 2 and 5  in the row of six pogos in the above diagram are the holes i filled just match them to the xbox motherboard you can fill all the holes if you want or just a few like i did sorry for the crap diagram buti have no camera

also i think ive found a way to overcome the matrix flashing problems if you hold the matrix chip up to a light and look through the black female 12 pin flash connecter, you will see two holes of light now turn the chip over and you will see the two holes on the motherboard, its these two holes which give 98 percent of the flashing problems like access denied or bad file, quite simply  2 male pins are not touching the two holes and this is why people have to pinch the thing for 5 minutes just to flash it
now look at the flash programmer and look at the 12 male connector pins, at the base of the connecters you will see what looks like a black bank of 6 jumpers which are the main problem,  what you need to do is remove this bank carefully by sliding a knifepoint or similar under each side and and gently sliding it off
now just plug your matrix and programmer together as normal and flash without pinching
trust me, size matters even if its 2 milimeters
