Matrix Suggetion To New Installers
« on: December 12, 2002, 12:08:00 PM »

Speaking of tape. I just installed EvoX2.5/Matrix last night. Aside from the expected frustration from alignment, I was able to get it up and running. I didn't use any tape at all...is it really a necessity?

The tape is not technically necesary,

All it does is keep the washer lined up.... if the washer gets too badly mis-aligned it can short the matrix and fry it.

Hmmm. how badly can it get misaligned if i've screwed it down with a #6 X 1/2" screw. All its doing is sitting there. I guess maybe with some sudden movements it could get misaligned. I guess until the next time I feel like realigning my chip I'll put the tape. Scotch Tape? Electrical Tape? I dont want the tape to melt on the mobo.

The tape is there just to hold the washer in place until you secure it.  The tape is not necessary.

There is an alternate ground point, so the ground at the screw is only secondary.
