Some people have contacted Xodus, and they got a hold of Easybuy and they sent them a new chip.
I don't know if they will do this for you as well, but Easybuy has sent out replacements to people before.
It's worth a try.

I was under the impression that Easybuy sent them a new one free, and even let them keep the damaged chip.

just solder a LED on?
its a whole $3.50 OMG MAN!!

I do not believe anyone has done this sucessfully.
I am not saying it cannot be done please do not get me wrong.

Just there have been posts in the past that stated such.. i.e.: led hanging..and missing.

people have tried wires.. laying wire and soldering across etc etc..

yet no one I do not believe has stated they have done it .. AND stated with what they did it with.

Please state so if you know.

But I agree it SHOULD be easy.

Nice idea but the Matrix is a NO SOLDER mod, so it's a pretty good bet that anyone buying it, isn't going to want to solder to the tiny LED mounts on that thing.  If you can solder a LED on, then you should be soldering on your Mod Chip too.
