Matrix Or X-ecutor 2?
« on: November 29, 2002, 05:42:00 PM »

from the rumours i've heard, it depends on what your using your x-box for, if you just want to play burned games and movies, just get the matrix, but i guess this new pro one will do some more tricky stuff,

matrix works fine though, and if you can't wait, just get it;)

yeah, that's pretty much all i want to do... I plan on getting a 120 gig hard drive and playing everything off of the xbox. Just so appealing being able to have everything in the box. Still a little scared off my all the matrix problems people are having... I don't want to have to be constatly reoping to realign the matrix... I guess I'll just wait till the x-ecutor 2 comes out to see what the reactions are like.

might as well get xecture 2 they are both good chips but x-ecuter 2 is newer and slightly cheaper. They are both equally easy to install. Its really up to you, it doesnt matter.

If you dont know what the 'tricky' stuff is then you dont need it.  It's mainly for developers or people that want to have full functionality of their xbox.  (it's all in the size of the bios basically)

So am I right in saying that the ROM sizes larger than 256k aren't really useful unless you know what you want it for?

Why do people sometimes want multiple BIOS?

Multi bios is again probably just for developers (switch between a dev bios to a normal bios)

Now, to say that you only need 512k if you know what you're using it for is not REALLY true... MS or other developers might figure out a way to prevent people from using mod chips with regular backups (not just online).  I'm sure they already have figured out a way, as it is not hard to find the checksum of the bios on the machine....but, anyways...if they decide to prevent CURRENT hacked bioses to play games a NEW bios may have to come out.  If this is the case, one might HAVE to use 512k - this is unlikely but team X-ecuter did say that no bios here on out (developed by them) will be smaller than 512k.  Evox might come out with a new version, if needed, that's 256k...but, who knows what will be possible.

This is all of course speculation....but, one day new released xbox games might not play on an xbox with a cracked 256k bios.  If this is the case however, then you would simply put your matrix aside and buy a new mod.

I for one hope that Team X-ecuter take the time, and have the skills, to get anything they do to fit in as small a space as possible. There is a good reason for this that nobody seems to be aware of.

The Kernel (in the BIOS, it's the bit that matters) is decompressed from the BIOS into Xbox RAM. The bigger the Kernel, the less free RAM the Xbox has. And you can bet that most developers are going to be using as much RAM as they can get their hands on.

A bigger kernel could very well mean that certain games simply will not work.

And that would be bad.
