Matrix And 500 Bios On Hd
« on: November 19, 2002, 08:46:00 AM »

My take is that you can store as many on the HD as you want.   All you have to do is boot to the dashboard and flash.

And yes they are saying with the proper bios that matrix has the features.  (Just like other new mods)

                                    ok, i have a 1.1 xbox 8417 bios.
now to me it seems the only modchip i can get is the xecuter2 lite.
so according the xodus the 1.1 is software dependent! WHAT SOFTWARE?
the bios file? seems like only team xecuter has the right bios my xbox.( which will be 512k, not 256k for matrix)

does anyone know of a bios file that will work with my 1.1 xbox WITH a matrix chip?

Ugh.

Xodus/Matrix is just creating  a huge wave of FUD with their VERY misleading comparison!!!

My opinion has just bumped down a notch because of this shenanigan.

Why? Because they compare apples to oranges!!! 500 BIOSes on the hard drive is a hyperbole, a giant red herring to direct your attention away form the fact that Matrix is a 256k mod chip, and incapable of handling multiple BIOSes at the same time.

I think it's great they are working on the BIOS hacks like the X2 team, but really, they should concentrate on a "Matrix 2" with a large flash for multi-BIOS and competitive feature list, rather than rely on FUD to confuse and confound people new to the Xbox scene. They might also want to get their quality control bumped up a notch, too.

I feel they've done a terrible disservice, and it's clear it's just a marketing ploy to push sales that are probably lagging due to the imminent release of the X2 lite.

Geez.... who cares about component count??? That has NOTHING to do with the mod's quality, as evidenced by the complaints about non-working programmers.  It certainly has NOTHING to do with the mods ability to handle a Debug BIOS (My own desire) or an enhanced BIOS.

I correct my statement from before... The Xodus/Matrix people have gone down SEVERAL notches of respect in my eyes.

I'm also wondering where their V1.1-compatible BIOS is!!! WHERE IS IT, EXODUS????

I mean, the X2 team is saying they will deliver a product that will handle both, and the Exodus/Matrix team counters with a big "me too" - yet where is the freaking BIOS? The Matrix is *out* and they claim to have the BIOS. Suuuurrrrrrrre......

Yeah, I was discussing the component red herring today at lunch. Before even getting to the point, my coworker laughed and said "how is that a marketing point??? It only means they are more likely to have quality problems!" - then I mentioned to him that the Matrix has seen it's share of quality issues. My friend isn't into the Xbox scene at all, we are all just software engineers who work with embedded systems.

I hope their 'big announcement' tomorrow is coupled with the release of their V1.1 BIOS, at the very least. Even better if they announce a truly competitive product with a larger BIOS (I like the idea of a 1MB flash couples with a switch between 2 512k BIOSes and a disable to revert back to the onboard TSOP for XBL. Seems like the best of all possible worlds and something I'd gladly pay $75-$100 for.

At this point, I'm still unclear if the X2 can handle 2x512k BIOS switching. Anybody from X2 listening??? Can I get an answer on that one??

fingers crossed, they need to release that bios BEFORE the new xecuter chips come out.
and they are out in less then a week

I have been talking with them recently via e-mail and I believe the v1.1 bios will be released shortly by evox.  They would not say anything specific, but droped hints as to this.

Their website says the following "if you stay tuned we will have some promising and powerful news for you very soon."  I believe this is the v1.1 bios (that's the same kind of response they were giving me when asking questions about a new v1.1 bios)

It would be nice for the community if this is the case.

I have pondered here before about the missing V1.1 BIOS, after the flurry of activity and discovery over at xboxhacker.net, which was paralleled by the X2 team's own work (I'm impressed that they made their discoveries on their own).

I wasn't a big fan of the Xecutor, but it seems like they have the most going for them at the moment, and surely have good intentions towards the users.

I wonder what the relationship between the Evo-X team and the Exodus team is... seems like they are working rather closely.

I do know one thing: I won't swap out my current homebrew mod for anything less than a dual 512k BIOS modchip. I won't flash and reflash just to switch between an enhanced 'retail' and a Debug BIOS. If X2 can't deliver that, I guess I'll have to keep waiting on it.

I am in the process of downloading it right now.  I'm thinking of flashing my TSOP with it just for fun...  cool.gif

By the way, for any of you who are thinking of doing this.  There are 2 versions of the bios.  One is for the V1.0 Xboxes and the other is for the X1.1 Xboxes.  Do not flash your TSOP with the wrong one.

Looks like X2 moved to steal the thunder from anything Xodus was planning on doing.

Still, the 1.1 BIOS is 512k, and I'm not sure if homebrew can boot V1.1 consoles (anybody know?), but for those with OpenXBox mods, this is pretty cool.

I wonder if the controller-reset is in the 256k BIOS?

Only the 256k V1.0 BIOS will, and there's TWO BIOSes for the V1 (512k and 256k).... the V1.1 requires a 512k mod to load.

will the 512k version IF cut down to 256 work on the matrix on a 1.1?
