Matrix (xodus) A-z Newbie Guide
« on: November 18, 2002, 10:44:00 AM »

bump...

Come on guys, what do you think?

Did I just waste my time?  Or is worthy to go on the X-S tutorials page?

Just trying to do what I can to help the scene out.  I'm no opjose, but I do what I can.   biggrin.gif

Keep in mind that it is a work in progress with gaps to be filled.  I'm trying to create something that you can say "newbie go here" and 99% of their questions will be answered.

It's a good effort, and it will be a good thing to link to when it's done. The problem is that as soon as a newbie sees "...", it's all over - they stop reading and come back to the forum.

 Additional comments:

 - I'd recommend putting in a description of why anyone would want to customize their BIOS at all. An introduction to the topic, in other words.

 - Xecuter2 will make 1.1 moddable - a link should probably be put in there to that effect. Your tutorial is specific to the Xodus chip, though - so I'm not sure how you'd want to proceed with that.

 - Maybe an introduction on "How do I check the size of my BIOS file?"

...it's definitely shaping up to be a good resource. My main suggestion is definitely a little intro to each topic. It's well laid-out right now, so that's good... but if newbs have to click more than a couple of links (since they're already just BARELY inclined to read any FAQs at all), they'll lose interest. Like the EvoX section, for example. The first thing is it links to another FAQ. Why not say something like "If you only plan to play backed up games and don't need to back any up yourself, you don't need EvoX. If you're not planning on modifying anything inside your XBox, you don't need EvoX. However, EvoX is often referenced in online discussions, and it's highly recommended for its feature set. Check HERE (link to FAQ) for more information."

But again - good job, and thanks for taking the time to try and put something like this together.

Thanks Canuck77!

Like I said, it's a work in progress, so the "..." are there just to remind me to finish those sections.  Anyway, I like your suggestions, so I will likely be adding all of them to the guide.

Also, if anyone can help me fill in the "...", that would be a big help.  The reason neither of these sections have been completed is because I have not used either program.  If anyone knows of tutorials for these that have already been made, please post a link.

So, there's at least one person who finds my efforts worthwile.    biggrin.gif

Just put some more of the finishing touches on the guide, including stuff for the new BIOS releases.

Thanks sulfur and Megadeath!

I added more to the installation section as requested along with more changes/additions.

If there is anything else that any of you want to see in this guide, please let me know.

I may be getting an Xecuter-2, so maybe a X2 A-Z Guide will also follow in addition to a CD/DVD burning guide I am thinking about doing.  Do either of these interest any of you out there?  Is there another guide you would like to see?

So is it still not possible to flash the Matrix via hard drive if your in Mode 4? I thought this was one of its features, but I still take the damn chip out when I need to reflash it.. I soooo like my PC-Bioxx better. Never have to open the case again.... and flashes 1st try, every time. Damn matrix took like 30 tries yesterday to get the X2 bios on it. But anyway.. back to my original ?.. is it possible to flash the Matrix (NOT TSOP) via hard drive?

Yes, see my tutorial, step 9.  It's rather simple.  I flashed mine today with the X2 BIOS.  I just love the reset trick.   biggrin.gif

Great guide so far.

Maybe you should cut it down though, as in have it in sections, so at first glance its not seem a chore to read.

Yes, it's grown pretty big since I first started it.  Maybe I will take the optional steps and move them to a page 2.

Wow, I just looked at the count on my tutorial page...100 hits since yesterday, unless this is a glitch; the count started out at 300 or so.  I hope all of you who are checking it out find it useful.

I e-mailed my link to xan tium, so maybe he will post it on the X-S tutorial page; just have to wait and see.   unsure.gif

I say leave the guide as one page but if you want to make it easier for people to see put links at the top to go to different sections of your guide. This way its still all together but easier for people to go to where they want to. Here's a guide that might be good to make. So far the guides you mentioned would be good. I say make whatever guides you got the chance and time to do. Especially since the Xecuter 2 is probaly gonna take awhile to get.

How to install and run programs on the hard drive. The part that most have problems with is editing the evox.ini. to show the program. Plus you can do alot more things with the ini file but I haven't seen anyone make a guide on it yet. I wonder how messed up my evox.ini file is.

Yes, it did, but it is back now.  I will likely upgrade the site; I may also mirror.  Please let me know if more of you out there are having problems accessing this page.
