The "Mode 3" just allows you to boot to the normal bios.  It can't be done without basically resetting the xbox.  

So yes, you can't play backups with the mode 3 swap, but it does allow you to use the original bios (and hence, get around any modchip detection).

Can someone explain what might be going on with my setup.
I have the Matrix set on Mode 3 and when there is a game disc in the DVD drive and starts to load up or even loads up and I press the eject button, my xbox will not boot into any dash. Actually, I guess it tries to boot into the MS dash, but a screen pops up saying my xbox has problems, blah, blah, blah.

Why is it not booting into the xboxdash.xbe?
